Thumbs down Some people just like to make people mad...

I just spent 35 cents a minute talking on my PCS to this guy who insists tha tHe would "Much rather drive a ZX2 than the Subaru." He said he had driven both, and the ZX2 was clearly better.

I was trying to explain to him that I was with him when he drove my car, and I know he only squeezed half the power out of it!

Well, I've promised to show him just how fast the car can go tommorow... Unfortunately, I can't humiliate a ZX2, cause it was some other guy's car, but I can show him what a car crash feels like in reverse

MY99 RS-RIP / MY95 MX-5

I've driven a ZX2. I also own a MY99 RS.

The only similarities is that my insurance company classifies both cars as subcompact cars.

Off the line acceleration goes to the RS (AWD launch).

Handling and manuverability goes to the RS (AWD and stiffer suspension).

Fit and finish/quality is split (Both equally suck).

Interior comfort goes to the RS, (there is a lot of engine vibration transmitted to the cabin in the ZX2)

Aftermarket - currently split (there is going to be more and more stuff for the RS 2.5 engine, but with the Focus, I don't see any more development for the ZX2. The RS 2.5 engine will become the "economy" trim for the MY02 series.)

Top end speed - Split (that V4 really tries to pull at the top end and the RS has a brick for aerodynamics.)

Fun Factor - RS (YMMV)

The Zx2 is Alot quicker than the RS i love our car. But be real I think it runs in the 7.2-7.5 our car runs 7.6-7.9... But the Zx2 feels Alot cheaper, which it is, than our car.

That would be impressive but a waste of time. Inline designs tend to yield higher hp and torque than their v counterparts. But inlines have longer blocks and larger sizes won't fit in normal compacts. That's why 4's are inline and some small 6's and truck 6's, but everything else is either V, H, or W. I don't think I've ever even heard of a V4 before.

but with the Focus, I don't see any more development for the ZX2
Hardly. Those cars use the same engine with slightly different compression. And that Zetec is also used in several other cars (Cougar). But the majority of the aftermarket for the Focus fits the ZX2 as well. And the Focus aftermarket is already large and is going to be huge, probably just as big as Hondas within a couple of years. The ZX2 certainly has an aftermarket future, maybe not in itself it will be supported by the Cougar and Focus aftermarket.

the two engines are nearly identical, no differences that I know of. They both put down 127hp, any engine mods that can be done to the ZX3 can probably be adapted for the ZX2.

A V4? Isn't that what alot of the buggies in the Baja race use? So the guy actually did drive the RS? I know I thought SCC had been borrowing Marion Barry's crack pipe to consider a Subaru int he 8 Great Rides issue. Then I went out and test drove one. Very nice! Even the wife quit talking crap about me wanting to test a Subaru. Maybe he had his mind made up before he ever drove the car?
