Unhappy Thought I'd give it a try anyway -> SOA responds...

Dear Mr. Ganz:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site, and for your message.

We appreciate your interest in wanting us to manufacture a 'turbo kit' for your Subaru. We have no indication that there will be a 'turbo kit' designed for any of our current or previous models. Since so much work goes into development for current model vehicles' accessories/parts, we generally do not design parts and accessories for previous model year vehicles. However, I will forward your message to our Product Planning Department for their information.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us, and hope we can be of future assistance.

Best wishes!

John J. Mergen
Subaru of America, Inc.

Will Subaru be releasing a bolt on after-market low boost turbocharger for year 2000 Impreza RS anytime in the future? One that would be covered by the warrantee. There is a large market for a 6-7 psi turbo for the older RS models. I know that there will be a 2002 model turbo in April 2001, but I would be upside down on financing with a trade-in of my MY00 2.5RS until I've had it for 4 years...

Larry Ganz

Yeah, I remember this topic from a while ago... I think like 5+ of us wrote in and asked the same question. Same answers as well. *shrug*

So maybe we're asking the wrong questions.

Subaru is not going to commit the resources required to design, build, test, and market an aftermarket turbo-or-super charger kit to satisfy the lust of a hand full of enthusiasts. However, what they might do is provide some degree support with key technical issues to a respected performance parts manufacturer who wishes to make a complementary product if that manufacturer were to sign the appropriate non-disclosure and license agreements. My point is this.

Maybe we should be asking for the name of a complementor-relations manager and passing that name along to Rimmer (or HKS or who ever). Maybe there is some chance that we can facilitate some technical and legal agreements that just might get us the forced induction of our fantasies (maybe even with a factory warranty). Corporations DO make these sort of agreements all the time.

My $0.02, comments?

Red-Impreza: that would be AWESOME! My dealer just told me the other day though, that in about a month, Subaru would offer turbos through the dealers covered on warranty. Maybe not anymore....

Yeah right! Don't forget to add that flux capacitor for future LL Bean Outbacks. Those models can go back in time too.
