Talking recognition

I just went for a coffe run, and there were three older guys in the shop sitting at a table when I pulled up. The car is silver, freshly cleaned, and I had both the headlights and foglights on. It was a striking picture. One of the guys asked, "Hey, is that a WRX?" I said, "No, the WRX is faster but mine looks better!"
It was awesome to get attention from someone who is just an average person, not a Subaru fan at all. It does not matter that he didn't know what he was looking at. He may have been looking at a beautiful RS, but what he saw was simply a sporty awesome car who's badges said SUBARU. It is just so cool that the mainstream is finally seeing and recognizing Subarus as performance cars as
well as utility vehicles.

Subaru: See what a little advertising can do?

That is my feel-good story for the day!

My dealer was loving my car when I took it in for a service the other day. He was like "Man, that is an awesome car" I thought "surely, he must have driven one before".

Thumbs up

It would be nice if Rally races would get the TV air time it deserves. Maybe the commercials and magazine articles will help.

I was at the grocery store the other day reading i beleive European Sports Car magazine, and this guy picks up Low-Rider Euro or some crap mag like that. And they had a write up abotu eh EVO-VII, and he starts talking to his friend about rally etc. And the one guy makes possibly the msot profound statement ive ever heard...

"yeah, thats tight, you ever seen Colin McRae in his 800 HP Peugeot WRX?! Its SO TIIIIIGHT!!"

By this point im grabbing my side im laughing so hard. And then the guy starts talking about how hes preordered one at the mitsu dealership. And the guys sister walks up and is like...
"whatever, you cant get EVO-VII in the US you idiot, they are illeagle, they dont meet front impact standards. Oh, and its a Subaru WRX you loon, Peugeot makes the 206, and Colin McRae drive a Ford Focus, and they are all limited to 300 BHP, whats wrong with you guys, you sound like a bunch of rice boys, oh wait...you are...civic boy"

And the brothers is all "shut up, my cars tight, ive got a bunch of tuner mods on it, like my [r]IceMan intake, and exaust system (i.e. muffler witha resonator).

ROTFLMAO!!! Im like in tears by now. And finally they look over at me laughing my ass off, and the girl says "See, he knows what im talking about"

And im like, yeah the EVO-VII wont be here untill at least 2003, i doubt we will see it sooner. And the other guy chimes up and says "what i wanna get is a 1000 BHP R34, those are tight, i could rally the sht out of those, they have awesome 4WD" By this time me and the girl (id say maybe 17) are completely red int eh face from laughing so hard. And shes like, "lets go guys before you make yourselves look like complete ass's...oops...too late".

LOL!! Rally is turning into the next "expert" feild. Kinda like "import tuning". Everyone wants to be the head cheese, and they all know nothing. Thankfully this board is populated by people that do know.

Umm, I was just happy that someone other than a car enthusiast asked me about my car! I am not trying to start anyting!

BTW, the only way we will ever get good rally coverage is if it is popular, so we will have to take the good with the bad...
