Options for swaps into MY93 Impreza
First post, but have been searching this forum, read the sticky, and made a lot of phone calls...
I was basically given a 1993 Midnight blue 2dr 5spd Impreza with 125K miles.
I have a budget of about $7k to work with on this car...but the priority is going to be performing a motor swap and then paying small attention to the appearance of the car(2.5RS stuff) I currently work at a motorsports shop that races/modifies Porsches and Audis, so I can do a lot of the work myself.
I've been looking at front clips on eBay and other sites mentioned on this board. I know that wiring, while complicated, is not tough. If I understand correctly, the motor drops in, using a different cross-member....etc...
My question is:
What do I need to look for in regards to a front clip?
Do I need to find one of the same year?
Who is a reputable importer of such clips?
What is the aftermarket for these J spec motors?
What, other than the complete clip, will I need to locate?
If I dont do this swap at my shop, who in Texas has done this type of swap?
I know these questions have been asked prob. a million times already, but Im just looking for a professional oppinion.
I really appreciate the help!

i dont think there were 2drs in 93, but i could be wrong.
you dont have to have the same year but it helps. obd1 vs 2. you will need a motor/turbo/cooler, wire harness/ecu, turbo subaru front crossmember, clutch, and tranny would be a good idea too, maybe brakes.
as for jdm stuff i hope someone else will chme in

If I were you and had that car and that money, I think I would stick to the US market. I would probably just get an EJ20 with the tranny and ECU and all the other stuff and swap that in. It would be the easier and you would have so much money left over to play with. Just an option. Good luck.

screw the us ej205. if u work at a motorsports shop, u shouldnt be worried about the cali-man appeasement, or what not. JDM all the way. amillion things going for the JDM in advantage performance wise to the USDM, and its cheaper, and its easier to do.
theres a couple other threads with decent discussion and argumentation of the usdm bandwagon as well as the JDM, pop a serch on this forum. basically u want a entire front clip to swap everythign with

if it is truly a 93, which if its a 2 door it isn't
go for the jdm swap only thing to worry about is emmisions testings ..
get the full car if you can..
