Default Im in Los Angeles CA, Sti Question

I heard alot about the detonation issue. I've only been using 76 91 Octane...is that going to be okay? I read my manual like any newb should and it said 93 or 91 if necessary.

Let me know. The faster I learn the faster I'll stop asking stupid questions.

It probably is going to be absolutly fine to use the 76=gas station 91octane. Many of us with no problems just dont post about it.
I can tell you my own STI and many others on this board have not had any issue's with denotation on the super high 91octane that us lucky Californians get!
With that said the owners manual specifies to use the maximum octane avalable in your aria, and for maximum output subaru recomends 93-94.
The pinging issue is a very random with a select # of cars and happens no mater what octane these specific cars use. Many cars do not ping at all regardless but I suggest listening carfully, buy good gas, and breakin your car properly.
If you hear pinging let off the gas,get off the fwy, drive easy(not above 3000) and join the many who are waiting for a better engine managment fix than SOA(the reflash has not fixed the ping on some of the cars with this problem but others it did.) The next option is to try shiv's (VISHNU) xede pigy back. I hear it is an geat unit but is only available as a cut and splice to this moment.
hope this helps

run it till you hear or feel a problem, then worry and step up to 76's 100 octain out of the pump. you should be fine with 91
