Calm down, the WRX's top speed is limited by law in Japan so, unless it has been de-restricted after import it will top out at 112mph. Check the spec on the WRX here http://homepages.enterprise.net/srb/wrx.html

If you want to know more about the Impreza, you can't do better than browse round the above site.

KenG- Your right about the speed limiter. Although I have seen the Primera at 120 so I am not sure about the actual top speed. I have seen a Silvia get run down by a Type-R because the Silvia had a limiter and the Type-R didn't. Alot of guys opt to have the limiter chip removed. The JUN cars would have had the chip removed and gearing changed so it may well be capable of 150mph+ speeds. The British mag compared the cars stock against stock. That may be why they mentioned the 112mph limit.

N/A, I have given a type R a real blast around the track and I think somewhere between 145mph and 150mph is its limit. It gets there a lot quicker than a standard UK turbo and you pray the brakes are as good as the engine! :

I will be personally importing an STI VI RA in late summer (still keeping my MY00 Prodrive UK turbo though) and I'm hoping the prices will start to drop with the launch of the MY01.

Ken- from what I have seen in the Scoobynet the prices of cars are falling fairly fast. With the P1 having been released and the people getting ready for the new design the prices of the older models have taken a big drop. You should be able to pick up a STI model there in the UK at a really good price in another 9 months or so. It may come out to the same as getting a Grey Import. At the end of this year I'll either be back in the US or on my way to the UK. It really depends on whether or not somebody their wants to give up their job and go back to the US and let me take their spot.

yes, you are ALL right about the STOCK limiter, but this car is FAR from stock!

the Magazine is "Taiwan Motor" they went to Japan to play
the WRX:
WRX STi Ver 3 Type-RA
EJ20 overbored to 2.5 liter, 100.0mm bore 79.0mm stroke (I wonder if the redline is still kept the same as the EJ20)
front mount IC Garrett T78 turbo
peak power is dynoed at 586.97 PS
Hood is full of holes and bumps :P
HUGE rear wing for all those runs at 190 MPH
the final drive ratio has been changed from 4.444 to 3.7, new gear box too...(did ja really think the type-RA tranny can handle 587 ps?)
it's got custom hand made fender flares to accomdate it's 255/40R17 tires :P
it's got 17kg/10kg springs f/r (wheee!) (Zeal suspension BTW)

The Lancer:
dynoed at 605.6 ps
and 67 kgm
it's just got a 2.2 L stroker kit (with bigger turbo of course TD-07 25G)
same 255/40R17 tires
top speed unknown
Zeal suspension too

hmmm...if you wanna know anything else let me know
oh, and the WRX won for being a more "Balanced" car
yay! (even the guys from JUN thought the WRX was a more balanced car)

heehee

17kg/10kg springs f/r

That's absolutely ridiculous. Assuming the suspension pickup points haven't been altered, those rates would yield something like 1-1.25" of wheel travel!

Maybe that's a bad assumption considering everything else done to the car, but otherwise that car would only be good for a nice smooth oval, or something with little elevation changes. Forget about keeping the tires on the road for street driving...

I don't think street use was even a consideration when JUN set up the cars. They would never get through the JCI inspection. They only do project cars for the race track. They do make some damn fast cars though.

My point is that rate sounds too damned high even for a tarmac racing impreza.

I doubt they biult the car for street driving. You don't see anywhere JUN say that their cars are street legal where the 17/10 would give wheel travels.

ColinL-I see what your saying about the stiff springs. I would have to agree with you. If you were to turn that car too fast and get the weight to suddenly shift in the car on the auto-x or tarmac it might not hold traction very well. Then again with that much hp it isn't likely to have alot of traction available to it in WOT. Has anybody bought anything from JUN for the RS? That is if they make parts for it yet.

i also read an article similat to that in Performance Car (a British mag)(was in 98 i believe)
Evo 5 won despite WRX's better acceleration and handling. the Evo was a bit cushier and easier to drive, plus it didn't top out at 112.
