Default STI 2.5 shortblock bolted into 02 WRX with 2.0 heads Worth it?

I am thinking of "accidentally" roasting a piston in the spring and going to the STI shortblock. I know this is a hair brained scheme, but I am just thinking outloud. I dont care about your opinions of the act itself, just how would it perform, what problems will I run into if I WERE to do it (there is only like a 1% chance I would)
I know the heads fow limit the HP, but I am looking to pick up low and mid torque.
Will it bolt right in and work? (obviously I would need to re-tune the UTEC right?)

It has been done with varying results. Some have just used straight up stock heads and few had them ported, most have retained the stock cams. The ones that have written on here and that I have pmed/talked to have been pretty happy with it on the street, very torquy. The ones with biggers heads have been pretty happy as well.

I am using the stock heads that I am porting, with upgrded springs and retainers from Axis. I have not final ised my cam plans but have been eyeing some JUN 264's.

For big power the heads are not really the show stopper the cams/valve trian are, not that having big port JDM heads or ported USDM heads would hurt. What sucks about the Cam issue is that the choices are minmal and expesive.

So it all really comes down to what you want to do with the car.
