Question Synth oil BAD?!

I was at the dealership today to get my first oil change. I wanted to have synth put in since I'm a high mileage driver. The mechanic was rather insistant on not doing it. He said Subaru recommended using only regular oil in Imprezas and that they only put synth in turbos. He said it could void my warranty!

Anyone with technical knowledge have any comments on this?

(In other news I also got my first dink... Some lady took a 8" strip of paint off my front fender! ARRRRRRRR! At least she gave me her insurance info. Pain in the arse tho.)

I don't think it can void your warrenty, ever, at all, there is a law against that. It isn't recommended to use syth untill about 6k miles however.

from the consenus of another thread, it is suggested to wait until between 6-10K miles. If you use it to soon the enging cannot break in properly, and this may cause oil loss latter in the car's life. Wait 'till 6-10K and tell the mechanic to P*** off, it's your $20,000 car!

It seems to depend on who you ask. Mobil is the only Synthetic oil Co. that says its oil can be used from the beginning. For Example Corvettes, Mercedes Benz, BMW's, and many other high performance cars come with Mobil 1 sythetic from the factory. All the other Synthetic oil companies say that you need to wait 10 k miles, so that your engine can break in properly.
