Default Hi guys... Just a few questions about the car buying...

I went shopping with a buddy today to look for a white 2004 WRX Wagon 5 speed... I had a particular color in mind and its hard to find... I am willing to wait a few months to order mine straight from the factory... But the sales manager said they couldnt even order one if they wanted!!! I want nothing on it except the premimum package (when i ask the salesman, he said it can be done)... But he located one near by and said it has the security package and then add the premimum package... They failed to answer my questions of where would the stuff be installed at... Here's the thing, they said i would recieve the heated seats with leather seats... This can be false as far as im concern and i would perfer the stock cloth covers...

Here's my questions...
#1. Can i place a order for a bone stock white wagon???
#2. Where is the premium package installed (im asking for the general Impreza)

Thanks in advance...

You cannot get the premium package in a wagon. The premium package includes a sunroof, which is simply not available in the wagon. This has been the source of MAJOR complaining when the premium package first came out. The probably can retrofit the heated seats and heated mirrors, but it will cost you plenty! The premium package is installed at the factory or at the entry point into the US. This might have changed mid-year, but I don't think so. If your dealer says they can do it, then by all means insist on what you want.

You can order or have them DX (dealer to dealer swap) whatever you want. BE FIRM. A local guy here ordered a Black with Silver STi with no options other than locking lug nuts. It took 1-2 months and guess what was delivered? What he ordered. Another dealership told him that ordering an STi was impossible. A lot of this depends on how much the dealership is willing to help you get what you want. If they just want a sale, they will say we can't order them or can't find one.

I waited 3 weeks for my wagon to come in and when I bought my wife's CRV, they DX'd what I wanted from a dealer 500 miles away!

You definitely can custom-order. If they won't do it go to a different dealer.

As was already pointed out, the wagon doesn't have a premium package - sounds like they are doing an aftermarket job on the seats, as the Impreza doesn't come with leather from the factory - this isn't necessarily a bad thing - there are plenty of nice aftermarket leather kits, as well as seat heaters - not at all uncommon for dealerships to offer it as an available upgrade - so you could get the seat heaters after the fact, then add them yourself to maintain the cloth seats.

The premium package itself (on the sedan) is probably installed at the factory as it involves different seats, a sunroof, different mirrors, and I think a different windshield as well as the associated wiring for each of the above.

Sounds like the dealership doesn't want to order, but is perfectly happy to reposition one from another dealer - as long as they can find what you want, you get the same end result - I would just make sure it comes on a truck, rather than being driven (to minimize the chances it gets beat on before getting broken in). You can also look around a bit yourself - if you go to the Subaru website, you can pull up dealerships and get a reasonably current inventory from each one - if you find what you are looking for, give that dealership a call to make sure they actually have the car, then if they do, go in with that info to your dealership and see if they can get it for you. If they are not willing to work with you, I would try another dealership.

If the car comes with options you don't want, you could always try to get them to remove them (things like the security system should be pretty simple to pull) - they probably won't, but it's worth a shot.

When I got my sedan with the premium package the dealer told me that it had leather interior when he pulled it off of their storage lot. He asked me if I wanted the leather interior, when I asked him how much it costs he said a grand. I told him that I didn't want it and he had it removed and the stock seats put back in. Didn't get to see the leather interior since the dealer I got the car from was in Atlanta so I don't know how good it looked. I went through Carsdirect.com to get mine. That's why I had to go to Atlanta to pick it up. But I was willing to drive 5 hours to save $3000 since the nearest dealer here wouldn't deal with me and totally pissed me off. Also the car came with other options I didn't want, but the dealer worked with me and I got the options for invoice price. Still got the car I wanted less than invoice. (BTW, all the options I didn't want I was planning on installing myself later, saved me the time and effort)

The Subaru dealers get allocated certain cars by SOA every couple of weeks equipped with options that sell well in their market.. they can accept, deny and.. request changes to this allocation but they have to be interested enough (or more importantly from their point of view..be convinced that you are really interested enough) to do this for you because if they change the equipment on a vehicle for you ('order you one') and then you end up buying from a dealer down the street for $200 less then they end up with a vehicle that is equipped in a way that does not sell well for them. Some options are factory installed like DrD said and some are installed at the port. My premium package sedan had a security system when it was allocated and I convinced the dealer to ask Subaru to delete the security and add premium sound since both are done at the port.. this was not easy and involved me putting money down ahead of time to help convince them I was serious.. I personally would never have a sunroof or different interior added to a car at the dealership level.. there are way too many problems involved 1 or 2 years later.. I am happy.. seats are heated.. sunroofs open and bass is pumping through the sub.. life is good..
