Default Baja license

I was just wondering if any one has licensed their new baja as a truck in your state.
The ground clearance went from 7.3 in 2003 to 8.4 for the 2004, and my dealer said it might be licensed as a truck now? Man that would be nice because it would only be $65.00 a year, not the $200+ a SUV is.

According to the feds, the Baja is officially classifed as a light truck, which is what my insurance says. So does that make it more or less expensive to insure than an Outback?

In washington and California the 03 and the 04 baja's are all classified as trucks. I don't know about anywhere else.

Our old Suburban was a station wagon, so I guess anything's possible. I still don't really know what to call it, which seems to happen more and more lately with the current trend in automotive design.

Here is an article that helps to explain the whole car vs. light truck classification: http://nytimes.com/2004/01/13/arts/13SUBA.html?8hpib

yeah i have mixed feelings about this ducking of the standards.

Stereotypically its people who are more environmentally conscious that have purchased Scoobies, at least until the WRX hit the scene. It will be interesting to see if this will have an effect on that marketbase.

crap my baja was licensed as a suv. I will have to find out what a 4 door S-10 or a Ford ranger is and why?

Both the S-10 Crew Cab and Ford Ranger (or Sport-Trac) should be listed as light pickups by the EPA, the DMV should follow suit.

My PT is also considered a car but my Ford E350 van is a license as a truck. Iowa has got just to many trucks for them to keep track of?
