Default Taking a motor across the Can/US border?

I am talking with a few places about handling my swap in Canada. Ideally I want to just take my seats out and put the JDM motor and drivtrain into my RS, drive it to Canada and drive home under JDM power and the EJ25 sitting in my car. My question is what will happen at the border? I'm certain my car will get searched but are there any laws against what I'm doing? Anyone have experience with this?

search FIRST, then PM!!!

um you should have no problem as far as I know.... I'm pretty sure customs just won't let us take a foreign car that is in complete form and running across the border. Largely why you see clips and not the whole car!!
Take it easy, Micah

I didn't have any problems and I even bought the drivetrain in CAnada so I should have been taxed on the parts. I also had 4 doors, a trunk, wing, hood, brakes, etc. and they didn't really care. I gave a great BS story though. As long as they believe that the parts are coming back ou of the country you should be ok. I wouldn't mention anything about JDM. Say it's a US STi motor or something from North America.

As long as you are not selling it they should't care. I brought an engine across from Canada into the US and I told them that I was having performance work done on it in the US and bringing it home after...they didn't care. Only thing they told me is that they werehn't sure what the Canadian side would say when I brought it home. They thought that they may want to charge duty on the work that was done. I guess you could make a fake bill and pay a few dollars on the way home? They may not even care. Actually when I crossed with the engine the guy said that they only care about drugs and or terrorists...so you may have no issues at all!
