I'm in the middle of reading John Milton's "Paradise Lost" for the 3rd time. It is a little easier to read now.

I don't know how many I've read, but I'm sure it's a LOT. I've been an avid reader all my life, beginning in childhood.

Nice list Mike.

Too many to list!

I'm damn near through with all of Proust's Remembrance of Things Past. Only 6 or 7 volumes, but should count as 20!

It's mostly nonfiction, too. I used to average 1 a week but I have less free time now.

that must have taken a long time.

I won't even begin to list the books I read in high school and college, probably only a total of 25 novels or so, but not too much.

Since then...now that I actually want to read, I've probably read another 15 books or so...

I have been wanting to compile a list of the books I have read for awhile now, your list is motivating me to act on this.

I have been an avid reader all my life as well, so my count is up there, not sure what its at though.

Hmm. I would guestimate about 500 to 600 at least for myself. I don't read as much as i used to. My library has about 200 in it or so.

1.. I've only ever read ONE book cover to cover. all the rest were just half-assed.

I read lots of non fiction material though.. i wouldn't qualify it as reading a book though.

Well, aren't we smart?

I've read a few, but I don't think I'll feel any better about myself if I list them all or count them or anything.

If I'd spent as much time reading books as he spent making this list, I'd have read twice as many books (four) as I actually have!

That's a very good point. And like you, I'm not putting down Mikes list at all.

I prefer to read epics. Other than old epics, the only author I read is Dean Koontz.

When I talk about epics, I'm talking about Homer, Milton, Virgil, Ariosto, Tasso, Spenser, etc.

By far my favorite is Milton. Although, the only book from him I truely consider an "epic" is Paradise Lost. What amazes me is how it is over 10,000 lines long and written in freeform poetry verse. (EVERY line has 10 syllables). WHat's even crazier than that is that when he wrote it he was already blind! Every reference to another book or the bible in that epic poem he knew from memory . And trust me, there are a LOT of references.

I don't think I have ever read a book all the way through in my life. Other than some little kids books when I was little.
