Post OT-Anyone here use priceline.com for gas?

Can you really get substantial savings with this. Just curious if any members have had positive or negative experiences with this.

I have used it a couple of times. The only problems I had was that you have to use the gas station they chose out of a list in your zip code. Also, they used to charge a $3.00 monthly fee for using the service. They have just done away with the monthly charge, though.

I've been using Priceline.com for gasoline for about a month now. My best price has been $1.20 a gallon for regular (22 cents below pump price). Normally I can save a minimum of 10 cents a gallon from what you pay at the pump.

Its pretty easy too. You pick a bunch of gas stations near where you live or along your commute, pick a price and roll the dice. If you don't get that price you can bump your offer a bit, or wait until the next day and try again.

You do need to plan for your initial gas purchase about a day ahead of time. Me, I usually buy about 40 gallons at a time and then use it through the month.

When you get to the gas station, you slip in your priceline card, punch in your number and pump gas. Simple and painless.

On my first 40 gallons I saved $4.20 from the pump price, the second 40 gallons saved me $8.80. One catch, you can only buy 50 gallons every 14 days.

It may not sound like much, but over the 12 months it can add up to around $155 to $160 a year (based on my current trend). That is money I can spend on something else.

Good luck!
