Default Plug and Play Harness for EDM STi Headlamps

For those who are interested in a "true" plug 'n play harness this might be a good solution for you. I am not affiliated with these folks but I am a happy customer. The guys at Chaio Fang Imports make a great little harness that plugs into your 9007 harness on your 02 or 03 Impreza and then splits out to the real H1 and 9005 plugs to go into your STi headlights, so there are no vampire taps, splicing, and/or soldering to make the connection. These work great and they only cost $55.00 U.S. dollars, that's just a bit more than the ones that are being sold by other outfits, but those require you to splice wires. If you want pics I can put them up or e-mail them.

I don't know if they will work with the JDM lights so that might be a question to ask them, I can't see why they wouldn't though. Below is the guy's contact info or you can paypal him at this address but I would suggest you contact him first.

[email protected]

Hope this helps all who are interested, I know I am really happy with the results.

Mike

Thanks for the glowing review.

They work with the JDM or EDM STi headlamps.

I also build adapter harnesses to put EJ20 into Legacies or older Imprezas (adapting the EJ20 ECU to the other vehicle's ECU harness), adapter harnesses to power foglamps off the stock black foglight plug, and am working on 4-wire and 6-wire levelling motor harnesses.

Contact me for more info.

Thanks.

Default Lights

I'm in Canada. With the decline of the American dollar, it'll be tough to get a great deal on lights right now. The Canadian dollar is up 20 percent on the American dollar this year but par with all the European currencies, so what I used to sell for 400USD is now 480USD, but the Canadian dollar value remains the same.

There are several vendors that sell lights for 900 or so, but none who sell the harnesses that I build that completely plug in. Should one of your lights suffer a misfortune, or you want to remove your headlamps because someone offers you unreal money for your headlamps on the street (happened to me), it's easy to plug-unplug, as opposed to cutting and taping on the side of the road or in the shop.

Default Here's a pic

Buy a harness from anyone else, and you either have to use vampire taps or solder.

This uses plugs to mate to the 9005 and H1 connector, and adapts it for use with the stock 9007 connector.

Not tried with HIDs, but it SHOULD work.

Not trying to be smart here, but have you looked that the 03 and 04 wrx's? The shape of the headlights is quite different... Wagons Ho I'll be a guinea pig for an HID set if you'd like.. And what is a leveling motor? I know the HID lights of adjustment positions, but what is a leveling motor?

JDM/EDM 2003 = USDM 2004. So the headlights are the same.

Levelling motors... there's a little man living in the headlights, and when you put a large quantity of stuff in the car (or small quantity of heavy stuff), the rear end squats, shooting light to the skies and blinding airplanes and oncoming traffic. Some lamps have levelling motors, and by turning a knob you send a voltage to the little man in the headlights and he turns them down to make them functional to your driving. We have a TS wagon with WRX and STi suspension bits in it. The levelling motors make the light usable, rather than blinding. I'm awaiting the arrival of a box of connectors to commence building prototypes using OEM plugs - I've done a cut-and-crimp solution, but if you ever have to change the headlight, you've got to cut-and-crimp the old plug onto the new headlight --- that's why I build a plug-in adapter. If ever you need to go back, it's change the unit (light and adapter, engine and adapter), not change the wiring

Sorry to be a smartass.

wished i had stumbled onto this thread before i installed the EDMs with the other harness...i had to crimp some butt connectors to make sure there's a solid connection.

having said that, i might reverse the install for something as simple and OEM as this. also very interested in the leveling motor switch. either way, you have PM!

Levelling motor switch and harness should be available mid January, using OEM plugs. No cutting or crimping required (unlike other solutions), and you just need to put the supplied "add a circuit" in the fusebox, and undo a bolt and put the ground wire lug on that bolt.

Simple, huh>?

I'm about ready to buy edm lhd lights now... leveling motor harness sounds perfect. I *heart* OEM, or things that are made to look and function like oem. Nice.

Anyone knows if the EDM HIDs headlights comes without the orange sidemarkers inside (as JDMs)?

Default Levelling Harness Prototype

Send me an EMAIL and I'll send you a picture of the prototype.
No cutting, no crimping. Run wires from engine compartment along frame rail, up to LH headlamp, run wires in front of rad to RH headlamp. Remove one rubber plug above the two heater hoses on the firewall, install my harness (comes complete with plug), run wires inside cabin, undo one bolt, put ground on, push 6 connectors on the switch, remove and reinstall one fuse, and voila... levelling switch that works, using OEM connectors (1700bux worth I had to get, I might add)...
