2000 RS/WRX swap
I have a 00 2.5rs. I was reading my maintainence schedule and at my mileage it says to check timing belt and replace if necessary. Actually right now i just passed 70k miles. Where and for what am I looking? I noticed some little plugs on the plastic cover on the front of the engine while I was installing my underdrive pulley. I suppose I'm suppose to look in there?
Also is the ej25 an interference motor? More importanlty, what happens if and when the belt breaks? Does the motor just stop or do I ruin valves? Any advice is appreciated!

The belt in your car is scheduled for replacement at 105k, and if you go to the trouble of removing the covers, I honestly would just replace the belt. Thing to check for is the condition of the tensioner while you are in there- if there is oil leaking from the pressure cylinder, you should replace it. Pretty much every Subaru since about 1997 has been an interference engine, and yours is included. If the belt snaps, the car will likely just stop, but there is the potential to bend valves.
