Default Anyone here have a non Subaru Extended Warranty?

I was just curious if any of you people optioned not take Subaru's extended warranty, but went through other channels to get one. I declined the Subaru extended warranty and bought one through warranty direct.

I did, 5 year 100k mile warrenty. It covers a lot more than I thought. But then again working for a Subaru dealer helps too.

Does Subaru honor "outside" extended warranties? I missed my chance to get in on a Subaru plan and have considered purchasing an outside Subaru warranty. I know most people say its a waste, but then again, they don't have my beat ass tranny.

The extended warranty from wararnty direct mimicks the exact warranty from the manufacturer that your car is from. So whatever is covered by subaru it will also be covered by warranty direct.

The only things exlcuded in the warranty are listed below:

We will pay the repair facility of your choice for the reasonable cost to repair or replace any part of your vehicle where a failure has occurred, except for those items listed in the exclusions section.

Exclusions:

Battery; shock absorbers; manual transmission clutch assembly; friction clutch disc & pressure plate; throw out bearing; manual and hydraulic linkages; GPS/navigation systems; safety restraint systems; glass; lenses; sealed beams; bulbs; brake rotors & drums; TV/video/game systems; weather strips; exterior body parts/ornamentation; paint; upholstery & carpet; tires; wheels/rims; phone systems; exhaust and emissions systems.

Those of you who are Geico customers and don't put a lot of miles on - they have a 100,000 mile no time limit warranty. If it takes you 12 years to get ot 100K you're covered. check into it.

Anyways I've been contemplating extending the warranty on my RS for quite some time now but just recently discovered I'm too late to get it through Subaru. Then I saw your thread and gained some hope for a second chance. I was wondering if you had a minute to give me some of the details and possibly make suggestions judging by your experience.

-What goes into the "inspection" process to claim your vehicle?
-How do they feel about aftermarket parts or mods? Will they even bother covering a modded car?
-Which term/plan did you purchase?
-Do you know if Subaru of America will honor this warranty at dealerships?
-Ever done business warrantydirect before this?

I really appreciate your feedback - the way my tranny has been I think it would be wise to make sure it is covered for more than 60k miles.
1. If you go the route of an extended warranty first visit this link and read up on it. http://www.carbuyingtips.com/warrant...z_ttky3&y=0x40
I purchased the extended warranty because my RS had 3 months of the factory warranty left on it. I was weighing my options between this NJ based Warranty Company and WarrantyDirect.com
What I discovered in my research is that Warranty Direct is the #1 supplier of extended car warranties. And on top of that they are a first party warranty supplier, so it’s not like they will go out of business anytime soon. They are insured by several different companies and have been around for over 20 years. About your first question…. Warranty Direct did not require me to have the vehicle inspected by them. The NJ based warranty place did want my car inspected by on of their claims specialist. All warranty direct wanted is the vin# and proof of where I bought the car. I was kind of surprised they didn’t want to inspect my car, but overall that was cool.

2. I purchased the 4 Years/75,000 miles plan with 0 deductible. I paid $1,300 for the warranty. You get road side assistance for the life of the warranty as well. So if you blow a tire just give their toll free number a call and they will send a truck out to you. Fortunately I haven’t needed their use yet. I am coming from a Volkswagen Gti that always gave me problems, that is why I decided to purchase an extended warranty, But so far the Subaru has amazed me with zero problems. Something I could have never imagined in the Gti.

3. Regarding Your question about mods… I only purchased the 4 year 75K plan because I planned to do an engine swap when the car is finally paid off. Personally I would never tell the insurance company or extended warranty place that I had done “mods” to the car. Yes they would be covered but at what monthly premium on your insurance? The insurance company I have isn’t too friendly on mods from what I have discussed with them. And when I mean mods I don’t mean clear corner and an intake, I’m talking about forced induction on your 2.5na engine. If something goes wrong with boosting the engine your asking fro trouble. So it’s basically “fly at your own risk” on the subject of mods. You will find the majority if insurance places are not mod friendly. So don’t count warranty direct to be different. If your engine goes kaputz and the dealer discovers it was the “power mods” at fault, then warranty direct will deny your claim.

4. Warranty Direct is honored EVERYWHERE, because it Is the closes thing to the Subaru warranty. It covers everything the Manufacturers warranty from Subaru would. When you have an issue with your car, you take it to the dealer to get it fixed. Then you call up warranty direct and tell them “hey warranty direct! I had an issue with my car and it is at this dealer getting fixed. Here is my warranty number” they give you a card with a number you call when you take the car in for warranty related issues. If your clutch dies that’s on you, they cover everything Subaru would. So if you beat on the clutch or you think it’s about to go on you any day soon, don’t be fooled into thinking that warranty direct will replace it free of charge. Because Subaru wouldn’t do that either. When the service on your car is complete you give the dealer the number on the back of your card, and they call up warranty direct to tell them what they did and if it falls under their warrantied items. Then warranty direct pays them directly over the phone with their credit card.

5. This is the first time I have ever purchased an extended warranty for my car. It is also the first time I have dealt with warranty direct. I learned about them from www.carbuyingtips.com I love that site and I trust the information it gives.

Good Luck and If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
