Talking OT: Corvette VS RS

Looking to hear from anyone who has owned both. Best if you have four seasons where you live. I'm considering if I want to get usa wrx/turbo or a corvette. I know apples to organes(SP?) but that is where I'm at. Both are exciting to me but I can't afford both :-(

If you live anywhere that it even rains then the WRX is the only choice.

I agree. While the Vette may be a little faster, the WRX will rule no matter what weather conditions you put it against. Oh, and just in case you felt like it, it's oranges (I know you probably already knew that though).

Well first of all, look at where you're posting? Hmm, a little biased perhaps? hehe. WRX, ummm yes.

Go to a corvette message board and try the same poll. The results would be interesting.

Interesting dilemma. I can certainly relate to you.

The new C5 is one of my most favorate cars at any price...other than a 911 Turbo AWD.
It looks great! It has gobs of power!
Handles great! And it's the best bang for the buck, period!
If I could dish out 40,000 for a car I would be sitting in one right now, "wasting" all who dare!
What more could you want??!!

Well AWD, for one. Thats where the "WRX" comes into the picture.

If I lived in the south...or anywhere without snow...I wouldn't even be driving an RS in the first place.

But when the snow squalls start rolling in, I would be kicking myself in the sack, because nothing beats driving around in the snow with AWD!!
I would have to give up winter rallying, ice racing, and "polishing" up all the parking lots in the area, which I am not about to do either.

If the new "WRX" can turn in at least mid 6 s 0-60s and run 14s on the 1/4 mile, I will be able to live with that!
...with 215 HP and some "tuning" it should not be a problem...

But that is me!
You have to decide for yourself! How fast do you really want to go, and how much are you willing to spend?? And what is your driving style??

If you never saw any snow and you had 40,000 bunring a whole in your pocket, I'd tell you to get a Vette tomorrow. But considering you live in MN, your winters are cold and you can get quite a bit of snow. So in that case I can highly recomend waiting, to at least check out the new Impreza.

Not to mention, even if you do have the money, the new Impreza will save you close to 15,000 compared to a Vette. Considering the potential of a FACTORY turbo, 15,000 can go a long way in giving you the best of all worlds.

Yea, that is a strange comparison. Mainly because the WRX will be a $25-27k dollar car, and the corvette is like a $40k dollar car. I say buy the WRX and do $15k in mods to it to make up the difference . A WRX with that much mods would kill a corvette in every aspect(accept maybe top speed, the WRX might not go as fast with its higher coefficient of drag).

& a fast red car ;)

Have a Nice Day?

Apparently love is truly blind. And, we all love our little Subarus. But, I'll be honest with you. I've driven a 'vette recently on a test-drive autocross course. The guy at the starting line said, "... remember, it's not yours... so, drive it like it's stolen." So I did.

O H M Y G O D !

Sorry folks, but I'd trade my RS for a C5 any day of the week.

Shhh... don't tell scooby.

He was talking about the WRX, not the RS. Sure the corvette would beat the stock WRX, but there's a $15k difference in price. So you have plenty of money to get that WRX into corvette territory. It won't cost nearly that much to get the WRX there.

Gzoomer...I've owned a coupla Vettes, only drove one in the winter. It was a '64 with IRS not unlike to the current ones. It actually was pretty good in the snow IF your comparing it to other RWD cars. When the comparison includes AWD...fugetaboutit!
Last winter I was able to toy, absolutely TOY with a friend in a Z28 Camaro while driving my wife's MY99 Forester. We were in freshly fallen, unplowed snow about 3-4 inches deep. No contest! The Vette would have an advantage on clear dry pavement but when the conditions get iffy, Subie all the way. Think back a few years to when Audi ran in TransAm, before being outlawed, on oily tracks or in the rain they ruled..with their 5cyl engines against V8 Mustangs and Camaros etc.

Well... This is fine and dandy for you people who live up in the great frozen north... Here in San Diego, you have to drive a ways to find roads where AWD is *needed*... Be that as it may, I'm looking at a scoob anyway, but wouldn't rule out a C5 Vette either.
