Post Is the aftermarket abandoning us???

I think i spelt that wrong... but anyways... now that word has it MY01 will be turbo EJ20 (or is it MY02, but anyways...) sounds like the EJ25 will be discontinued (in the performance oriented impreza at least) so it stirkes a thought that maybe they no longer want to reasearch on new parts for us EJ25'ers anymore.... think about the cams and turbo kit that rallispec is coming with... its been a while... i dont mean to doubt them... but i jez think its perfectly understandable to drop those products.... the EJ25 aftermarket demand wont grow anymore... no??

wow.... reading over that was some sh**y structuring..... hope u know what im trying to say...

Did you ever check how many aftermarket parts are availible for an '88 CRX? Companies will still make parts for older cars, as long as there is still a demand for those parts.

Actually, I might contend that demand for aftermarket products for our cars will go up. Some of us are busy saving money and/or waiting for warranties to expire. Those that have already taken the plunge and gone turbo or have done other mods may well be looking at making the car full race in the fairly near future (i.e. 1-2 years) or at least building upon what they've already done. Has anybody seen full-race Celica's (new-style) proliferating? No, but you see people taking those old CRX's and doing crazy things with them. Alot of these people have gone the same wait for warranty to expire route. Then they get bored of daily driving what was actually a fairly competent car to begin with. No monthly payments = lots of money to buy parts with.

I thought the same thing, but what about the forester. Isn't that the same engine, and along with all the rumors, is a rumor that they will continue the RS. Kinda like the civic DX. And I know there is parts out for the RS. so rest assured that we might still have parts. Oh course reassurances from an 15 year old without a car doesn't mean much.

Isn't the forester getting the new H-6 soon?

i wouldn't worry too much about that...

in the year and a half i've owned my car, I've seen AT LEAST 8-10 new aftermarket suppliers pop up...

if the demand is there [- which it is and will continue to be cuz not EVERYONE (me) is going to buy the turbo -] the supply will remain - perhaps even GROW....

But then again, there's more CRX putting around than RS.

I may have to sleep on the couch for this one but...I disagree with SG.
I don't think that enough of the 2.5 L engines were sold (in enough cars) to warrant the continuation of aftermarket parts. Of course I don't have the actual figures but I would be surprised to hear that Subaru sold more cars than the CRX alone.
This being said, I do wish that the parts are made available and everyone is very happy all the time.

According to the few Subaru reps I've spoken to since Monday.

The turbo will come out in 2001 as a MY02.
The EJ25 will continue to be offered in the "economy" version of the Impreza. The EJ20 Impreza will be a limited run like the current model RS and will most likely be sold by dealers at around $5000 over sticker.

But the 2.5 isn't going anywhere. It's sticking around. The 2.5 RS should remain for several years. The 2.2 liter is going to be dropped.

I believe that we are part of a very clever
long term Subaru marketing plan. We are the
"test" market. Unfortunately I don't see the
2.5RS aftermarket growing either. So sad!

Talking

I think that they will probably continue to grow, but probably will slow down quite a bit. Some of these companies would like to see some return for the money they spent on R&D.

WEll i mean think about it... there are very few ppl doing conversions to EJ20... some think about trading in an RS for a EJ20 turbo... and some are waiting till the turbo version comes.,... so... i jez seems to me that theres a way bigger future for the EJ20 than there is for our EJ25...

dont get me wrong... i think both engines are quite equally capable.... but i feel that its a lot cheaper to modify the 'ready to go turbo power' EJ20 than the NA EJ25 to the same standard... but then again... the turbo will be more expensive...
