Default why do some RS owners hate wrx owners?

as the questions states why do they? i noticed in their fight club forum (www.rs25.com) that they really hate wrxs. they hate noobs too. i figured this out when i posted "arent the older jdm wrx a gc8, the same as the RS here?" instead of a nice response like "no its blah blah blah" they say "you f***tard ...." and then other people posted "f***** noobs" they say its a gn6 i dunno..i just thought the chassis code was the same. but eh...watever. just wonderin y there's so much hate b/w subaru fans. i guess they dont realize that everyone is noob when they start out, including themselves.

watever. i think i'll just stare at the bannana.

The only thing I didn't like about the WRX..
It used to be a close knit community of hardcore enthusiasts before the WRX made it here, and to be honest, many of the people who own them didn't even know there was a WRX before the 02s arrived here. I'de get waves and hellos no matter where I was by other subie owners.
Then the WRX came. Everyone loved it and it was in all teh magazines and everyone bought one. It is today what the 5.0 mustang was back in the 80s. Some of these people had no clue of Subarus history and had no respect for people in the older subarus who pushed so hard to get the WRX here. Alot of people were flat out jerks who thought they were cool, some were clueless, then again a lot were former RS owners or true automotive enthusiasts.
I dont know that was just my gripe from what I had seen happen locally. Went from a neat little friendly community to an overpopulated bunch.
WRXs are heavy too But they are good cars. And its a good thing subaru is getting more and more popular. It was just kinda cool in the good old days.

ahh i see. ya i noticed some of the wrx owners are kinda jerks. i met some that just rev on me and try to race me. and some wrx owners dont know much of subaru's history. i fell in love with subaru when i watched the wrc. wanted an rs since i was in highschool. then the wrx came out, and i wanted that cuz its a subaru, and they finally got the wrx to come here. o well. kinda got the best of both worlds. (02 RS..heh...)

i just wished people put their ego aside.

We're all just envious of your power.

Seriously though. Had I known in 1998 that the US would even get a WRX, I would have fixed my truck's transmission and saved my pennies for an STi. The way it stood in 1998, however, was Subaru was only going to make 700 or so RS models for MY99 and if it wasn't a success, that was the end of the line for performance Imprezas in the US. As you know, exactly the opposite happened.

Hawk296 is right, this used to be an exclusive group with only a few active members because there were only a relative handful of 2.5 RS in existance. Now, it's been overtaken by WRX owners. The worst of the WRX owners generally speak for the whole group, so us old farts see mostly street racing teenagers. I know that's not the norm, that just the impression most people have of WRX owners.

So, rude RS owners fall into two groups.

1) Those who (or whose parents) couldn't afford a WRX and are just plain envious of your power.

and

2) Those who remember the good old days of 6 years ago and can't handle that they blew their wad on an RS when they should have waited. To compound matters, if all of us hadn't bought those RS's in 1997-2001, there would not be a WRX. It's a catch-22.

Me, I'm glad to see the WRX here even though I never bought one. All of my letter writing and my purchase of my RS went to some good--even if I haven't yet enjoyed owning a WRX.

Or 3, they would just plain rather have an RS than a WRX.

I drove a WRX back in 2002 all set to trade in my RS, and actually decided to keep the RS. I like having a 2 door, call me old school but a 4 door performer just does not excite me (except maybe the Mazda RX8). Also, while the WRX was faster, the turbo lag really bugged me. I like ice and rallycross racing. Both are more fun with a smooth torque curve.

The STI seems smoother, but I think I'll wait a year or two for Subaru to work out the bugs (think MY98 for the RS). That, or maybe after owning 7 Subarus I'll look to another make to stick with a 2 door.

cbrenton,

I was only listing the two types of rude RS owners. You count yourself in this third group, and I don't see any reason for members of that group to be envious of or rude to WRX owners.

it's mostly when the wrx came out...everyone jumped the bandwagon, came over here and showed zero respect for any subaru other than the mighty wrx  So you can blame it on all the toolboxes that came here and ruined it lol

so what if they all jumped on the bandwagon, its a great car and a great brand. what are they doing by buying more subarus that's hurting you or the brand. anytime ANYTHING gets more popular, it will attract more jerks.

i bought one because of the hype, then did lots of research and learned lots about older subes and now i have a 87 hatch and i'm looking for an rs. i like foresters and the brats and pretty much anything that has 6 stars on the grill.

you should look at what subaru has done with their name in the US. they had a very successful marketing plan and killer products all around. i can't imagine being mad at someone just because they bought a different car than mine and they don't know about the other models. there's a guy at work who has a legacy outback. i'm not mad at him just because he doesn't know alot about subarus. he just liked the car so he bought it....what about all those over 50 year olds that drive WRXs. i wave at them and they don't even realize i have the same kind of car they do so they wonder if they left the fuel filler door open.

i'll be the one waving at you.

You should have been around for the discussions on actually making a WRX only fourm.

There was one just for all the rumors about it coming here.

I knew in September '99 it was coming.

With everythign good, there's bad too. I used to have an RS, sold it to get my Wagon. I still think what life would have been like with the RS... and I'm happy I have what I have. There are some RSs that are purists... they liked the old days.

Case in point....

i guess i fall into the group of not knowing the past, but you dont start off knowing every single fact, my friend told me about imprezas back when his dad was thinking about getting him a STi for his graduation (yes call him what you will but, if when you were graduating and your dad ask if youd like one, youd say yes)
and thats when i got interested in Subaru's, untill then i hadnt taken two looks at Subarus, i was wanting a 240sx
but times have changed and so have i, ive started to do reserch on 97 and under impreza L's (because of price [can find 2.2 awd coupes with not alot of miles cheap in texas]) looking for one that i whould enjoy driving if the taxes dont kill my parents this year like they did last year. and my love for Subarus will only grow from what i learn, i am hella knew to the thought of owning a subaru, only been looking at them for about half a year, but they look to be awsome cars and i feel that i will become a subaru enthuistist(sp?) in no time. only through positive interaction between subaru owners will we continue to grow in a good direction. id like to thank the people that have made nasioc a great fourm for me to learn about what subaru has to offer to the public. as for people that dont seem to get along with the others, if they like rs's, they like rs's. just try and be kind, even if there not kind to you. best to leave a good impresion of yourself even if they havent done the same

My personal experience has been that I've seen many cool wrx owners who wave, etc, only three or four that have ignored me when I wave, but I have yet to come across an RS that did not do a flyby (with me not racing at ALL) or tailgate or generally act like a jerk. I know this is not representative of all or even a large percentage of RS owners, but it IS my experience.

So far I haven't been impressed. If they feel I don't "deserve" a subaru, they would do best to just ignore me and drive normally instead of trying to run me off the road.

Personally I enjoy seeing other subarus on the road, and the majority of them seem happy to see another one too. But there are some real tools driving subarus, and not just late model ones either.

When i was in pittsburgh about 7 years ago or so, i'd see this dark blue 2.5RS by my house with bronze wheels parked in someone's gravel driveway. damn that car looked sexy the first time i saw it. i always appreciated that car then. before the WRX came out i wanted a 2.5RS. ofcourse i didn't have much choice but to drive a 94 sentra.

of course, i also wanted a lot of cars but the only car that i had a chance in hell of getting was the 2.5RS. when i heard about the WRX coming to the US i was overjoyed. and that became my new target.

my heart rates still elevates everytime i pass a 2.5RS and a non-yellow or red WRX.

Did the name of the forum not tip you off? It's called "fight club" for a reason. It's just were everyone goes to be stupid and flame each other. You gotta use your head son.

You just described about 50% of my experiences with WRX owners. They never wave, and if they even realize they have the same car, they just drive like an ass.

In my experience, RS owners are much less likely to wave back at me than WRX owners. I wish everyone would grow up...all my friends love the RS.

Cool

Strangely enough I think folks are pretty friendly around here. As I drive north of LA people wave and smile more and more. Doesn't seem to matter whether they drive old- or new-school, Subaru owners inherently seem to like each other. My wife always laughs at the fact that we "joined a cult" without knowing it at the time. And that is okay with me.

I actually wanted a 98-01 RS way before getting a WRX. I took notice of them in 99 and immediately started reading up on them. When the WRX was announced for the US market I was stoked but the looks took a while to grow on me as even now believe the 98-01 RS to be the best looking car in the price range the Impreza line falls in. I was looking to get rid of my civic for an RS and the only thing I found in my price range was a 97 L wagon. I give the wave to old school and new school alike and sometimes get the friendly honk and sometimes I get shunned. Either way you have to understand that some people out there don't have a clue as to the background of the Impreza line up. WRX owners who don't give props to the GC6/GC8 Impreza body don't have a clue so that just shows their ignorance and they can't be called a Subaru fanatic. Also RS owners that hate on the WRX have either been rubbed the wrong way one to many times or are envious of someone having a WRX........I mean that's the only conclusion I can come to.

Wow, so following this thread it sounds like:
not waving = jerk with an ego

I have to admit, there have probably been a few times I've passed a Subie who has waved at me and I didn't even notice. Heck, Kh0S was following me down the road the other day and I didn't even notice that (if you've heard his exhaust you'll know why that's pretty amazing).

Sometime I'm into the tunes, sometimes its the sound of my own exhaust, sometimes I'm focused on practicing my double clutching or heel-toe, somethimes its <fill in your favorite driving activity here>. It is *never* because I have a tude about someone else's ride. I expect this may be true for others as well. I've owned 7 different Subarus over the years and thought they were all great cars. Anyone that owns a Subaru obviously has class.

I'm tempted to stick one of those waving hands to my roof so people know its just me zoning and not to take it personally.

I dont' look down on RS drivers as a matter off fact I don't look down on any driver driving any cars. Stupid people will always be stupid no matter what car they drive.

I always wave/thumbs up when I see other Impreza drivers. OBS? or other Subarus? I did in the past but they never wave back so i stop on them. Now only with Imprezas because I know most of them actually react in a positive way.

I used to drive an RS as well before there was any WRX here. Unfortunately the WRX came out only a year after I bought my RS. I had taken a year trying to explain to people what an Impreza was, and then all of a sudden everyone knows what they are. Everytime I went somewhere I got the question "Is that thing a turbo?" So yes it WAS bitterness for a while. I mean, how would you feel if you just bought this great car, and a year later the better (perceived or actual) model comes out. Stupid of course, for not waiting. But that wears off eventually, and you grow-up and get over it. After all, they are just cars. And by the way, I wave every chance I get.
