Question poll: what would u have bought?

With all this talk of the wrx coming over and people putting there money down for one already, let me ask you this...

if the 2.5rs and the wrx were out at the same time when you were getting your subaru, which one would you have gotten? I'm not sure of the price for the wrx when it comes out, but i'm thinking mid 20's to high?

for me, the rs was just in my price range, if not a bit of a bargain, the wrx would probably make me skip 2 meals a day, if my price guess is right. if i had the money for the wrx, i dunno, for 220hp, i think i would like the rs with a stage 2-3 turbo, going up to 275hp or something. just MHO

but, i still can't wait to see what happens when it comes out.

I'll have to stick with the 2.5RS. Partly because of looks, partly because the cost of insurance for the WRX scares me. The WRX will probably be out of my range for another year or so anyway.

I'm going to go with (someday, when I get rich, like next summer hopefully) the new stage 2 kit Minnam (aka carmodifications.com) has, which puts a stock RS right up to about 295hp (which has yet to be proven, but is REAL nice if accurate).

WRX of course. The 2.5rs was just for fun until Subaru finally decided to bring it over.

WRX. Now that I have the RS though, it's hardly a done deal that I'll "upgrade" to the WRX.

Ok OK....if no one wants this WRX then why are you all crying for it all day all night? You should be lauding your all superiour N/A 2.5RS over the rest of teh world's WRX then?!
I for one will prolly get it if I like it. I said to myself that when it comes I will buy it. I assume it will outhandle all Imprezas stock for stock. At least the WRX badge will not be rice! hahahaha

Ditto ColinL.

Ask everyone in my family. I was tormenting them with the very same question each time I visited.

WRX in '01? RS now?

My '87 Jeep made my decision a bit easier as it blew through its rings for the last time this summer. Since there was only the RS available...

I think it is going to be more fun to upgrade the RS. That's for sure.

Final thought... I would not have been able to afford a $20K car let alone a $25-30K one! Can you say new "baby"?

I definitely would have bought the WRX.

The trouble now is that I love my RS so much. The new car has some big shoes to fill. I am very much looking forward to driving one.

I probably would still be wishing I could afford to have a WRX. The RS just wouldn't of cut it compared to the WRX and I wouldn't have been able to swing the extra $5k+ for the car plus the extra insurance.
I may trade my RS in in a few years but for now I like my 2.5.

Thumbs down

There is no comparison.

I was riding my mountain bike yeterday up Daley Canyon and noticed a glimmer out of the corner of my eye. It was a late model Bluish Purple (sorry I'm color blind) Impreza RS. This is a beautiful car, a classic. Subaru could only hope to match the beauty of this car with the new WRX.

They failed miserably.

Someone please post a picture of the RS side by side with the new Neon.

Don't buy the new car. How much is a Turbo engine worth to you?

Instead, buy a new RS and transplant the 2.0 engine into it.

Picture this, there is this meet on say April 2001 and a whole lot of RS showed up. lot of them with WRX badges and modded up. Then a middle age guy drove by and decided to join. Lo and behold it's the new WRX. Seriously you think ppl will still cloud over them WRX wannabes? No, they would run towards the new WRX in stock form and look at what it has inside. I know that's what happened to alot of us when Ver. III brought his converted RS over. Who cares about that RS with a ver. 5 wing or a 22b bumper of clear corner lights?! And his car is dirty, has lots of stone chips no cosmetic mods and still! (Sorry Rich it's true). And pratically everyone wants to line up to sit in the car. Wouldn't you want to sit in a WRX or a another "modified" RS or OBS?

2000 Impreza Turbo

Why don't you just all wait until it comes out to make a judgement? You obviously like your RSs, and no one is going to force you to sell them, so enjoy them until the WRX comes. When it does, arrange for a test drive in one, and then the looks of it might not matter so much!

Subaru are very conservative with the power figures for the turbo versions of their cars, UK models are typically 9-10 % shy of the real figure, and the performance figures are on the conservative side to say the least.

The performance differential between the RS and Turbo will be alot greater than you imagine. Also, you won't have to spend $000s modding your NA car to get near that sort of performance, invalidating your insurance and warranty.

I don't particularly like the current Impreza shape, but I bought a turbo because I've driven them, and they are fan - bloody - tastic!

P.S. When I tried to refresh, i received
'Hack attempt logged' What's all that about then?

I'll keep my A4, I hate to say it but I think I'll be very disappointed with the US version of a WRX

A friend of mine will be coming home today with his brand new RS, while I plan to wait until March 2001 when the new model comes out and I have saved some money before I decide which will be my choice. I am leaning heavily toward the WRX, but I fell in love with the RS because of its looks first and foremost, and then realized what a great car it is. I'm afraid that with the WRX, it'll have to be the other way around; love the performance, then get used to the looks.

But to me, the RS is just the perfect blend of performance and styling; I've never been so captivated by a car before, nor have I seen so many others who feel the same way. It's just beautiful. While the new car will be a performer, if it doesn't continue the spirit of the previous family of Imprezas in its aspect and design, it just won't be the same car to me, and I think to choose the WRX just because of the performance edge is doing the RS a disservice.

Buy the RS because it'll make you happy, if you love the way it looks- you can always mod it.

Buy the WRX if, to you, the spirit of the car truly lies beneath the sheet metal.

My vote is the 2.5 RS. Like was mentioned before the insurance makes all the difference in the world. I do not have a 2 door Red coupe for $30k I have a blue 4 door auto, which as far as insurance is concerned is NA.
