Post Question about 'Unorthodox Racing Underdrive Pulley ' and such

I was looking through the mod section, and aside from the rear sway bar (which I'll get to), the pully thing seems like a relatively inexpensive mod that is worth it if you don't plan on plopping a turbo into your Scoob for awhile (I really do plan on waiting till my warranty naturally runs out). Can you guys give me some info on this, like what exactly it does, and why are the people in the mod/aftermarket section so intent on telling me that no light dimming and such has been reported (can anyone tell I'm not a mechanic? hehe)?. I also want to make my hood scoop functional, any info on that (other than just unbolting the plate underneath it hehe). I tell ya, my head is spinning from reading through all this. But I did manage to adjust my fog lights, thanks to the people who helped me!

Edit: Forgot to add that I should have pics up by next week, pending the addition of my gauge pack and stuff

I think you can probably do a search in the tech discussions or general forum to get lots of info on this. Basically the "racing" pulley has a smaller diameter than the stock pulley, which means smaller circumference, which means on every revolution of the engine it will turn the alternator less which, theoretically, under heavy wattage loads, could cause light dimming. But I've never noticed any.

as to the benefits of the pulley, think about riding your bike. as for the gears by your feet, when you have it on the smaller, it's easier to pedal, smae thing here... but yeah, all the belts will move slower.

I just installed the U-Pulley on my 2000 RS. I already had a Weapon R intake and Stromung exhaust on it, but after adding the pulley, i definetly noticed some more top-end power. The car pulls harder and smoother at the top of the powerband. It wasnt too hard to install, just followed the mod's section. That thing was a b!tch to get off though. We had to use the force of the engine's crankshaft turning the pulley with the 22mm socket pinned to the ground to loosen the stock pulley.
I have an upgraded stereo, neon interior lights, and with the A/C on full blast, my lights were still bright as ever.
Hope this helps,

I have an Unorthodox Pulley, it's the only modification I've done to my 1999 OBS. I haven't done a dyno and don't have a G-Tech either, but my impression is that it doesn't make an immediately obvious or noticeable difference in performance. Unorthodox Racing also claims that gas mileage will go up, but my mileage fluctuates between 25 and 27 mpg, which is the same as before the pulley.

What I have noticed is that my A/C doesn't cool as effectively while sitting at idle as it did before the pulley. My suspicion is that the smaller pulley isn't supplying enough juice to power the A/C compressor. Others on the board have had mixed results with their air conditioners. Admittedly though it is a minor problem, which goes away if I rev the engine a bit while stationary. I haven't noticed any problems with headlights or any other electricity-dependent parts of the car.

IMHO, handling modifications would probably make more sense at this point than anything else. Nothing else gives you bang for the buck like a turbocharger or supercharger .

Can you use a Turbocharger/supercharger with the Unorthodox pulley?

you could leave the smaller pulley on if you were to add a turbo. you would have to replace it with the larger (stock) pulley to run a supercharger.
