1996 Legacy WagonLSi

Default New to the land of Subarus

My wife and I just picked up a 96 Legacy Wagon LSi with 76,000 miles. It was a one owner who just decided at 79 years old to buy a brand new Legacy. There are a couple nicks and dings, but pretty clean. Although she never cleaned the wheels and the clear coat gone. I'll be glass-beading the wheels and painting them gunmetal as soon as I replace the clutch in my car.

Well we aren't used to driving a car that doesn't handle very well, and it rides a little too soft for our tastes. I'd like to get a set of sway bars on there, but I'm not looking to spend too much on the car at this time. I've looked around the forum, but haven't seen too much info on swapping in take-off parts. Are the suspensions the same from 96-xx WRX's? Can I swap in sways from a WRX? Will that even help? The shocks are getting ready to go, so will stock WRX shocks and springs fit on? How about lowering springs with stock WRX shocks? Which ones would ride ok?

Just as a reference, I have a very very stiff suspension that I drive everyday, and love it. Most would hate it. So some springs may not be ideal for some, but I wouldn't mind them.

Welcome!! i think there was a thread a couple of days ago about the suspension. I think you can but quote me on it. I just got a wrx front swaybar for MY2000 and it fit nicely.

The rear swaybar from an Outback (same body style - BD/BG; MY96 - 99) will go right on. It's 18mm, compared to the GT's 15mm, and who knows how small on the L or Brighton.

As far as I know, the suspension is swappable amongst all BD/BG Legacies. It also sounds as though the springs from the WRX will work for us too. I don't believe that the struts are interchangeable. But, the previous generation ('93-01) Imprezas struts are interchangeable with our cars.
