How old are you? How many speeding tickets or accidents do you have?

Sounds like the quotes I was getting when I was 18.

Might be a bit high for being perfect clean...

You should have your mom put it under her name and you be a occasional driver.

Regardless if you are on your own for now,

you rates don't drop till your 25, or so that seems to be the case with most males.

Thats what I did, and now I have had my own insurance for 2 yrs, and my rates for my wrx are like $110 a month.

You should talk to the guy with a STi who's 19 with 10 points on his license. I think he's paying $1,000 /month.

Being put on as a secondary/occasional driver, you still build a insurance history. If you have had no issurance at all that'll probably be a different story.
Why spend $400/month (example) instead of $200/month? try to stay on as secondary driver until your 25 yrs, then your insurance will be basically halved as a primary driver.
In the books it says secondary/occasional are only supposed to drive once or twice a month, but I used to drive my mom's car 2-3 times a week. There's no way (that I know of) they can to see how much you drive the car. Unless you keep on getting pulled over.
Also shop around, some other insurance companies may be cheaper than your mom's.

Here is a link to see some online quotes:http://www.kanetix.com
Play around with the different options to see what you can get.

You are a bit young in the insurance companies eyes and with a short driving record. Though, I agree it does not justify the price. You might want to check out this site http://www.kanetix.com. Run your info through and it comes up with some quotes and you can then call the cheapest one and arrange to be insured. I know it saved me a bundle, I moved from Allstate at $5400/year (ridiculous I am 31!) to RBC insurance at $2280 per year. Big difference and alot more fair for a guy with one 15 over ticket in all his years and one accident 5 years ago...

Good luck mate, and do yourself a favour, be careful and don't get any tickets or accidents at this time in your driving history, you'll be screwed!

edit- DUH! maybe I should read the whole thread before posting a duplicate link eh?
Ah well, at least you now know it is worth checking out!

Another site that will do insurance quote comparisons for you is www.insurancehotline.com . They'll show you the lowest rate available to you, but depending on the insurance company offering that rate there may be a charge ($8.50) to get the company's name. Worth it if it's a big savings.

If you're a CAA member, rates for their auto insurance are pretty reasonable in my experience. I'm 30 with no tickets/claims since 2000 and I'm paying $1480/year with CAA. You can also use kanetix to get CAA quotes: www.kanetix.com/caa

bc only goes by accidents.. i've never had an accident so I actually have a 25 percent discount off of the standard insurance. you get 5 percent a year.. and if you get accidents depending on how much your discount is your insurace you lose your discount or if you have mulitple accidents you can be paying out the ying yang.

like for ex.. I have a 25 percent discount.. ashley crashed my car but it goes under my insurance so I go to 0% discount so i'll actually have to pay 25 percent more next year than this year.

People like that should not be driving cars like the STi......they should be taking the "big white limo" or a 1980 civic!!

btw- let me guess....black STi in Calgary??

More like his parents are paying for it..

I agree with spt..

how do you teach values to someone who gets everything they want...

I guess that opens another "can o' worms"

How did you manage that? What insurance coverage do you have? I've had a completely clean record since I started driving (30%) and I pay $3950 for the WRX.

Try AMA. they have discounts for membership, as well as driver training. They told my fiancee (22 yrs old, 1 year insurance history) that driver training (about $500) would lower her premium by about $1000 per year.
