Default What's so special about STI wheel weights?

The shop that mounts my tires is a service station in a pretty $$$ area. They have a GSP9700 and they do a lot of high end European cars.

Anyway, I was talking to the guy who does the mounting and balancing and he was all chatty about the weird wheel weights that the STI wheels came with. He said he has a dozen different styles of wheel weights but he had never seen that kind before.

He said he was going to try and find them for next time, since they're slimmer than the nearest match that he had.

What's the deal? Is there some sort of international wheel weight sanctioning organization, or does each wheel mfr just do whatever they want?
