Post Short shift lever comparo

This is information that I once wish was available, so it may be useful to some people still.

I installed a Mike Moffa short shifter, after using a 2.5RS shifter in my OBS for a month or so. The stock OBS shift throw is 2.5" in each direction. The 2.5RS shifter reduced that to 2.0". The Mike Moffa Version 1 shifter (intended for non-RS applications) reduced that further to 1.5". I did not try installing the even shorter Version 2 shifter, as it isn't mine.

Here is a picture of all four levers side-by-side (left-right: stock MY97 OBS, sotck MY99 2.5RS, Version 1, Version 2):

I didn't have a Kartboy shifter available for a comparo, but I imagine it's very similar to the Version 2 shifter. Ditto for the SYMS, GGR, and SPT/STi shifters.

Changing to the 2.5RS shifter provided a shorter throw, but the rubber damper made shifts into 1st gear feel mushy at times, especially when cold. The lack of the rubber dampener in the aftermarket short shifters (including the SPT kit) eliminates this problem, but also results in quite a notchy feel. But some people like that. In all, I suppose I prefer the notchy feel to a mushy one.
