2004 Baja Turbo

Default Subwoofer install

I'm contemplating adding the factory sub. Does anybody have any experience with it? Any recommendations. How hard is it to install?

If you can find something else that fits, skip it. I have one and wish I got something else. It is better than nothing though.

I like mine, since i'ved owned 2 Bajas. The sub works better with the 80 watt system than the Turbo model with the 100 watt. The install is not that bad.the wiring is the hardest. If you do get one don't follow the wiring instructions.

They want you to pull the radio, heater controls & console.I don't like doing that, you could damage panels or cause rattles. You can pull the pins inside the glove box so the door will swing down. Then pull the pass side console panel. Now you can reach behind the radio to unplug the harness and plug up the new one.this is whats hard, using one hand to plug the sub harness to the radio and the radio harness to the sub harness.

Then tuck the rest of the harness underneath the edge of the console back to the middle of the pass seat. Then run under the seat and plug it to the sub.On my second sub install i didn't use the sticky pad i would recommend not using it,it makes a hell of a mess on your carpet.Good Luck

Regarding pulling the panels and such, it's not that big a deal IMO. I've pulled my whole radio, heater controls and console pockets out 3 or 4 times now. The clips seem well designed to handle this, and I noticed that Subaru has some foam padding mounted on different panels with double sided tape to help reduce rattles. I had to open my console first to install an aftermarket stereo, then to add the alarm upgrade, then to reconnect the heater control plug which I forgot to reconnect after the alarm upgrade (d'oh!), then to remove and repair my aftermarket stereo. The best recommendation I can give is to use a magnetic tip screwdriver. I've had to chase two or three screws down into the crevices that are open with the panels removed. Luckily, an old PC hard drive magnet taped to the end of a straightened coat hanger recovered the dropped screws.

Good luck on your install if you go for it!
