Unhappy Headgasket leakage with 98 RS.

Hi! Just wanted to know that if anybody having any overheating problem with the DOHC engine at all?
Cause the headgasket of mine is keep leaking every 40000km. The coolant just spill off from the hood everytime I push the car on the highway. Do anybody know there's problem with those Subaru Headgasket?
The service is just being an ass-hXXX, saying my camshafts, exhaust , intake and my driving habit causing the problem.
Even if they agreed to change my headgasket, I bet they shall leak again after another 40000km.
Do you guys have any sugrestion what I should do? Thanks.

Common sense suggestion: don't drive it much in that condition.

I know someone else with a '98 who's headgasket also started leaking. His car was turbocharged.

The headgasket was replaced -- you really don't have much choice here.

[edit] Just FYI, it was not JUST the headgasket that was replaced; they put in an entirely new block. I've heard it suggested that just replacing the headgasket is asking for trouble, at least in the experience of some dealerships.

Replacing the head gasket alone should work-- unless the head(s) or cylinder block is warped. Go to deja.com and search alt.autos.subaru for "head gasket" and you will find some good advice from savvy Subaru oldtimers.

(I had some of the better stuff bookmarked / archived, but it's long gone now.)

Colmanchan.. Ya, this problem occur on some of our 98 model.. Subaru as a full metal head gasket replacement part to replace the weak one of 98.. Its full metal, but not Multi Layer like a hi performance one..

Last week, I made a lots of research to try to find some hi performance "Multi layer" head gasker for our 98RS.. Conclusion, maybe I got some.. I should get some news this week.. We need to be sure its a Multi layer one, not juste the one that Subaru use for replacing.. Subaru one can be good, sure will be better then the one we got in our 98, but a multi layer one will be even better..
I will let you know if I can get them.

Take care
