Default Intercooler Upgrade Options?

I keep looking for a USDM STi intercooler to pop into my XT, but they are pricey as hell.

I'm debating as to what to slap on there. I've talked to XXTuning after they put an APS top mount and a forge BOV on one of their vehicles and gained 27 HP!

I'm just wondering if it's worth all the trouble of getting the shroud, splitter, intercooler, hoses, etc.

What are some other options?

I don't know who XXTuning is, but 27hp from a new ic and bov is bs. You will gain a few horses from a new IC, but most of your gain is going to be lower intake temps and, in turn, the ability to add more boost - that's where the big hp gains are.
Most aftermarket options are around $800-$1000... Personally, I like the look of the Spearco/ESX ic; I believe it's the largest top-mount available for the EJ25. Again though, be prepared to spend $1000...

You can find many STI owners trying to get rid of their TMIC for about $400. You are not going to beat that by much going aftermarket

Everyone has
stories they bore me

well, the APS top mount will NOT fit an FXT. We tried fitting our one lap car with one and it will not fit. We used an STi top mount alot less money yet alot better cooling than stock. I would say with the fxt's factory intercooler, and anything upgraded you will find more power. The stock ic is tiny. We also used the STi hood scoop off of a 02-03 model, the splitter took some fab but it all works very well with the SR40 now.
