Default Dad wants to buy this boat. How do I talk him out of it?

Here

He has owned 3 boats before this (25' ski boat, 80' pleasure boat, and a 30' sail boat) and he hardly ever used them. I don't think he ever took the 80' boat out of port actually.

These things are money pits and I know he won't use it. What is the best reason to use? Should I tell him to get a V12 Vanquish instead?

Explain to him that you live in a desert, which has no water?

What do you care? It sounds like he has enough money that it's not an issue.

Encourage him to get it and then take it out with your friends. You'll get laid more than you ever thought possible.

Women love a big...boat.

1) I don't live around him so I'll never get to ride in it anyway probably

2) I'm married so I really don't think it will help my sex life at all.

3) I care because I'd rather him get a cool car instead and he is deciding to get this or a car.

Actually, I spent 4 days on an 82' Hatteras Motor Yacht last summer. They make a hell of a boat. BUT things break, and your 395K yacht will become a 600,000 yacht in short order. Diesel motors and big boat systems break. And break expensively. But I am sure he knows that having had several. Still and all, if I were buying a used sportfish boat, a Hatteras would be near the top of the list.

That kind of money woud buy a lot of first class, luxury cruise tickets. He could enjoy watery trips and walk away without the responsibility of ownership hanging over his head.
