Post Legacy B4 (rather long)

Here's the latest news to hit Australia

Subaru releases Liberty spec details B4 launch

Subaru Australia has released more specification details on its much-anticipated Liberty B4 twin turbo.

Due for launch during August, the Liberty B4 will feature a black leather sports interior, with distinctive blue leather inserts in seats, door trims and on the Momo steering wheel.

The driver's seat will have six-way electrical adjustment.

The dashboard features a brushed aluminium-finish facia and premium seven-speaker McIntosh audio system, with single CD, AM/FM radio cassette and a sub-woofer mounted in the rear parcel shelf. There will also be a six-stack CD changer mounted beneath the front passenger seat.

The back-lit instrument display features a striking three-stage ignition illumination sequence, with instrument rims lighting first, followed by needles and numbers.

For added security, a keypad immobilizer and alarm system will be standard. Two keys will be provided, with the remote central locking buttons integrated with both key fobs.

Liberty B4 will have unique-design 17-inch BBS alloy wheels.

Final power and torque figures have yet to be confirmed by Subaru's parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, in Japan. But, as previously announced, the H4-2.0 2-stage twin turbo engine is expected to have around 20 per cent more power than the single turbo Impreza WRX.

Liberty B4 will be available as a sedan with a five-speed manual-only transmission.

It will be offered in a choice of black, white, silver or blue and will be available in limited numbers.

According to the motoring media, estimated price is in the $65,000 AUD region.

Glad to hear that the B4 is going to hit Australian shores officially (finally)...

Of all things I envy between my B4 (version A) and the new one (version C), there are mainly two:

- improved brake pedal system
- cool backlit, 3-stage light-up instrument panel; when you see it in action, it is really, really neat...

I like the RSK B4 but I doubt I'd buy one after all. I was waiting for one of them to hit the US for a long time. Now I'm out of the US and I don't really care anymore. I think a turbo H6 would be cool though. Maybe call it the RSK B6?

Is bigger than yours.

Give it a couple of years... Subaru built itself a good solid reputation of being reliable utilitarian transportation here in the US. In the late 90's they started swerving it over to a more trendy-upscale (Forester, Outback, etc.) and now they're working on the performance side of their image. In a few years they will be able to offer outstanding vehicles here and people won't scoff.
