Wink Why Pirelli P7000 205/50ZR16 over 205/55ZR16

I'm getting quite sick of the stock RE92's and were looking at some tires. Lot of you guys like the 50's over 55's P7000's. Since our stock tires are 55's, shouldn't I stick with 55's? That way it won't screw up the odometer. I know that less sidewalls mean less tire rollover but these Pirelli's have pretty stiff sidewalls.

Which P7000s? The P7000 Summer or P7000 Super Sport? I believe the P7000 Summer only comes in the 205/50ZR16 size and the Super Sport in the 205/55ZR16 size. Depending on which one you want, you don't have an either or choice as far as size goes.

Yep, uktena is right. The Super Sport does come in both sizes.

The 205/50/16 is the stock size everywhere but in the US.

205/50-16 and tires that diameter are advantageous because:
  • *more clearance for front mudflaps if you mount them
*more clearance at the rear fender if you lower the car

*more miles on the odometer. (although only about 2 per hundred, which is an extra 1000 miles over 50,000 driven)

I heard somewhere that tire manufactorers have an OEM syndrome. The 205/55 series tires are not as grippy because they are mass made, and are the OEM size for countless cars, making these cheaper and inferior tires saves the company money, but still gives the customer the brand. The 50 profile tires though are supposedly a whole lot stickier. I could be horribly wrong about this, this is just what i've heard!

Thumbs up

I was running Khumos 712 in 215-40-16 for a week till I crashed Sunday morning and wrecked the two drivers side rims and tires, along with the rear door and fender and some suspention.

Ouch Leonardo, are you ok? That really sucks, how did it happen? Kinda sounds like "Yeah, I made it to the Superbowl, only I broke my collar bone in the first quarter!!!"

i bought a set of p7000 ss (50's). Had 14,000 miles on my car at the time. I just rotated the tires (front to back) at 25000. I will say, the tires that were on the front are about 80% worn. While the ones that are on the front now, are only about 15% worn. No matter what they say, if you drive them hard, they will be used up quickly...HOWEVER, there ability to grip and handle even the tightest twistie is perfect.

Scooter,

I understand that, but in general cars sold in the US that come with standard 16" wheels usually come with 205/55 tire. I think it was a review of a Ferrari running 235/45 17 Pirreli P-Zero's. The reviewer then drove the same car with 235/40 and the car gave more communication, was more predictable and in general handled a lot better. This is the reason I would go ahead and buy the non-OEM size and enjoy the increased performance

Question

Do both tires have the same tread pattern but with different compounds?

Not to go too far off the topic. But I don't remember reading a rule about G-stock and tire size. If you stay on the stock rim ,you're stock. If your tire is less than an 1" outside the wheelwell, you're stock. If your rim is smaller than stock, you can stay in stock.

Let me know please.
