Have a Nice Day? WRX or S2000 or VW Golf 4 VR6

Dear Scubby friends,

I'm flying back to San Francisco this month and looking for a car. Since I was in highschool I had a VW 16V Gti with all the mods. I miss that car and have read quite a few mods for the new VR6. But since I've been away much has changed and here in Singapore the WRXs, EVO VIs, and S2000s are the rage. So now I'd like some advice from you all as to what I should get and your reason why? Please share...

Thanks a bunch.

None of those cars share much of anything in common. They can't really be compared fairly.

Save your money and buy a Ferrari 360 F1.

Well, I wouldn't get the VR6, and I am a huge VW fan. First off, the 24 valve version of the motor is coming for 2002. Second, the 1.8T GTI is much more tunable and lighter in the front end. There is a bolt on 310hp kit for the 1.8T coming to market from APR Tuning. It is absolutely first rate in quality.

As for the S2000 vs. the WRX, I am, interestingly in this exact same predicament. It depends what you need the car for. I have access to an SUV for hauling stuff around and winter driving, so I don't really need the practicality of the WRX. The S2000 is a true roadster built in the vein of the British roadsters of the '60's. It may not be as fast outright as a tuned WRX, but for sheer driving enjoyment, it will be a very hard car to beat. Oh, and an S2000 in California is still selling well above MSRP so that may make your decision a little easier.

Buy the S2000 - it's the best.

Dude! What are you thinking?! Of course the Jumbo Jet!!! Nothing beat the rush of a 200 ton chunk of metal hurtling down a tarmac at high speed and take off to the air.

I have been thinking.... should I get a WRX or a Harrier jet?

Go for the Harrier jet. I personally wouldn't get the jumbo jet, to hard to parallel park. The Harrier shouldn't be a problem though. Probably want to go to some special driving schools though because I heard those things are really hard to hover.

Thanks for your input. A few months ago, I has my heart set on the VR6 with the Konigsede bodykit, 18" rims. It looks really sweet. Then I was looking into the engine and realised man, to modify the car's motor, exterior I'm looking at a $45K Golf and still might not get the performance of a standard S2000!

As you know I've also been thinking about the WRX but I know very little about Turbo charged cars and here in Singapore, I've seen many 310-430hp WRXs, 290-320hp EVO 6'S and 600hp Skylines with blown engines and $$$ gone. In the long term, how well do Turbo charged cars last?

Finally, for the S2000, how much power can you extract without going Turbo?
