Lightbulb How to make your clock RED!!!

Here is what the finished product looks like at night:

What i did:

1) Went to local craft store and got red stained glass paint.

2) Removed clock and took it apart from black plastic case and painted about 5 layers of the stained glass paint applying one layer at a time every 10-15 mins until i got the desired color. (I just kept on running back and forth from the car to my paint to check the color, best results are at night!)

3) Reinstall

Final pictures of complete Red conversion: (bad quality pictures, sorry!)

For the HVAC and Cruise/Auto button on window/Fog light button i used red bulb condoms from www.partsexpress.com

If you guys have any questions feel free to ask this took me about 2 hours to do everything. Now all i need is the STi gauge cluster!

Happy modding,
~Zach

Blue would be much easier, i went from green to red! Green to blue would be real easy and probably look better too. Also i had to disable the clock to dim when you turned on your lights, so it stays bright all the time so you can see it. To do this all i did was take out the 3 wire down form the tope of the harness it says something like LIG beside it. This was all done on a 2004 WRX.

1: Where did you get that gauge cluster and who makes it?

2: I also used bulb condoms for all of my lights in the car but when I tried to use it for the fogs and cruise it is NO WHERE near the brightness of your picture... what did you do? My HVAC lights are nice and bright but other than that my cluster is sorta dim... I am actually looking for a completly new cluster, I like the v8 sti but I would prefer the cluster that you have there.

Thanks,
-Nigel

Yeah its the stock '04 cluster, i did nothing to it, just turned the brightness control all the way up on the dial adjustment. For the brightness of my cruise and fog switch's i have no idea, i used 1 bulb condom for the switch's and two bulb condoms for the HVAC to get the red that you see there. Next for me is the USDM 2004 STi gauge cluster.

Thumbs up

I cannot read my clock very well, but i don't care because i wear a watch (haha) J/K but no i don't worry about that because i have a clock on my aftermarket stereo. But i can kinda see it, if you do a light coat of the glass stain you will be able to but if you want it to match everything you have to do a couple of layers to get the red that i have, and i cannot see it very well in the daytime. I just wanted everything to light up nicely at night was my concern.

Hey, what kind of gauges are those in the center pod? Did you change the colors on them or did they come like that. Thanks.

Zach if you get the USDM sti cluster i will buy your stock 04' cluster from you. I hate the o3's because of the yellow and green, I would MUCH prefer red needles like the 04!

OR

Does anyone have a part number for the 04's gauge cluster? I assume that it's directly plug and play for the 03's..

Thanks,
-Nigel

Here is for the Cruise/Fog light/Intercooler button: (all the same)

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ight=glue+bulb

In the fog light the two little turn screw's are both lights so replace both with condoms and you will have the both the Fog words light up and the little light above it that tells you when the fogs are on. (once you read that post link above you will know what i mean)

Not working? did you put them back together correctly, all you had to do was take out the bulb and but a red boot on it and put it back, then scratch off the green plastic. If you have anyone else that has a scooby get them to let you take apart one of their buttons and see how it goes together then do the same to yours, and make sure you plugged them in the right spot too.

Alot of the bulbs in the WRX are polerized so if it isnt working take it out and turn it around 180 then put it back in...it should work then if the bulb is still good.

Wonder if it is possible to turn everything CLEAR. I like the bright white looks of the stock 04 gauge cluster. I would like to make everything else white.

Is this possible and would it be too bright or what?

Let me rephrase this. Are all the bulbs clear to begin with? If they are, I can just remove the condoms and scrape the greens off and that's all.

I'm pretty sure I can do the buttons for cruise, fog, and the stereo (I think), but I can't find any directions on the heater controls.
