Default First Impression of COBB CAI:

First impression: LOUD. VERY LOUD, but very nice. I saw a video awhile back of a COBB CAI in car, and I though no way is that just an intake, there has to be an exhaust on there. No, it was just the intake. Its not that loud until you go WOT, which I do all the time pretty much, then it screams. It reminds me of a V8 or an older Porshe 911. haha.
Power: Seems like there is more power mid-to-high. Didnt notice any low end, but that me be because the power is spread out throughout the powerband more. I noticed that now that I have the Stage 1 complete that I can go to 70mph in 3rd gear, easily.
In summation: I love it, and am ver pleased!

Steven

I have a simple solution to make the noise from your intake less noticible... install a loudass exhaust. I used to think my intake was hella loud. Now I can barely hear it over the rumble of my exhaust. Great mod though.

I paid $170 shipped for a used one.
It even came with an extra "elbow" pipe that I sold on ebay for $20+

ya I got a full exhaust(header+trackpipe+catback) so I barely hear my cobb anymore. Though from the outside its weird as I'm coming you hear my cobb, as I pass and leave you you hear my exhaust. I got it on video, very interesting.

Which CEL did you get? And are you sure it's because of the CAI? I havn't heard of anyone ever getting a CEL from an intake alone, myself included.

Well No CEL for me yet, or since my COBB Cat back, over 800 miles with the exhaust. Is it just me, or did the CAI make your exhaust sound better too?

2.5RS2003 : I bought mine from cobb. but it took 2 months to get here. so a used one might not be a bad idea.

Not sure what CEL it is yet, still have to scan it but it doesn't seem like anything is wrong.

I doubt its from the intake though.

Question

Anyone,

Do you mind telling me what the piping diameter is of the intake? I'm not talking about the PRM filter but the intake itself. Just using this as a reference. Thanks!

3" I think...

I love my Cobb. I originally thought it was very loud, but I got used to it really quick. Now I find myself pushing just that little bit harder when driving normally to get that sweet grumble.

Thanks for the the reply on the diameter. I was asking since I have a PRM air filter and I wanted to kind of duplicate the intake. The PRM filter doesn't seem to be able to fit a 3" pipe on the receiving end (wide end) though. Seems it would need a 2.5" pipe. I'll check again later today or tomorrow.

If you don't like the noise, there is no reason in the world why you couldn't wrap the intake. I've even seen a picture of someone that put a bunch of KooziesŪ on one. Why not? Helps keep the air cool, too.
