Default Tell OT about your nighborood pals you had when you grew up

Inspired by another thread... it got me reminiscing about my childhood friends from my neighborhood... so I figured.. good reason to remember the finer things in life... like when we were kids and had no fear (except of parents) or responsibility. The only things we had to do were our chores, homework and be home before it was dark.

I grew up in a bedroom middle-income community with one of the most popular restaurants in the state (Fore 'N Aft... it was a high-end seafood restaurant) as my concrete playground. It was owned by the Hanleys, and their grandkids lived in the house next to us. Ted, Mike and Suzy. Ted never liked to eat anything without ketchup and Mike... he was always mad about something. We sometimes fought about toys, turns or if they were out or safe... and even the two brothers faught against themselves... to the point of broken bones. My brother and I would just watcha nd go "Ohh, they're gonna get in so much trouble when their mom finds out". However when it came to baseball, they were good to have on our team... (Hanley lane used to play against the kids from Fatima Ave) we all played baseball in the field (not a baseball field..... sometmes the weeds would be 4 inches tall and we had to try and find the ball)... or even when there was snow on the ground... Baseball. (Or building snow forts in the Parking lot when their granddad used to have all the snow piled in this one spot on the back.

Glenn Brown was another friend. He was the one that used to cheat at monopoly or Risk. But he always got caught.. because we knew he cheated. But he was also another one on our baseball team. One time he got nailed in the head with the ball... these days, the kid would have gone to the hospital... back then... you just get up and continue playing with a one inch protrudiong 'goose egg'... becuase if you didn't the game would be over.

There are others, but when I was a kid, these were the core friends in the neighborhood.

i still hang out with half of the friends i grew up with...the ones directly around my age i still see...some guys were a few years older and some were a few years younger i dont see much anymore...we used to play army...sports...ride bikes...i remember on christmas how exicted i was to see what i got but then the excitement i had the next day when we all made the rounds in the neighborhood to see what each other got

we went to school together...we got highschool jobs at the same place (villianova universary dining services...also met some close friends from villanova who incorporated in with my childhood friends...so i count them as family also)...we were in each others weddings...been to families funerals...these people are like family to me...life long friends id say

Only marginally

My old skool neighborhood story is sad.

Matt, the QB of all our fine backyard football games, got a girl pregnant at 17, 3 months later I was his best man. I haven't heard from him in 2 years, I saw his mom the other day and she said he was living back where we grew up.

Travis and Jake, mom and dad took them away to michigan because the mom had a "mormon vision" that they should move. 1 year later, they were divorced and Travis and Jake were living in seperate homes.

Randy, enh, he's doing well, we still talk, but aren't friends like we used to be.
