Question Any chips available...

...for the RS yet? 2001 in particular. What else would one have to do with a chiped subie in order not to kill it?

I know of no "chips" that are available. There are some things that work like said "chips", an AFC allows you to have some control over fueling and an ITC allows you to have some control over timing. However, these tuning devices won't really do much (if anything) for a stock car and are meant to compensate for engine modifications.

If you are talking about the chips like those that are available for Audi 1.8T and such factory turbo vehicles, there will probably be something available shorty after the release of the 2002 US Impreza Turbo. These work by following the stock ECU into running a higher than stock boost level. These will make good power for little money, but how safety is a concern.

Nobody can really tell you which ones are safer than others until the car and the chips are released to market and some testing/analysis can be done. A lot of chips raise (on other cars) raise the boost to levels which cause the turbo to operate out of its efficiency range and thereby heating the intake charge much more than the intercooler can compensate for. But in order to determine we'd have to know AT LEAST the turbine and intercooler efficiency, and what the chip does before anybody can answer this question.

www.jcsports.net has a "torque chip" for about $225.
www.cobbtuning.com has a programable chip for $795.

There is something called the ICON sold by www.autocaresubaru.com I think.

And, you can spring $2,000 for a programable ECU from www.vishnuperformance.com

That's all I know...
