Question New to the area, and thinking about a new car......

I don't know if this is the right forum to ask about all this, but here it all is.

I moved from the only town I ever knew (outside of vacations) to live and work in Fremont. With it I brought my one and only car I have ever owned, my '83 Honda Accord. Well I feel a bit out of place, but it will take me a bit of time to raise enough substance to get financing and all that mess. If my planning goes all well, I should be able to get a new car.

It is a long way off, but I still got caught up looking at all the cars out there, and saw the 2.5 RS Impreza, and haven't found another car that I want more.

Now the problems...

I am new to the area, so I don't know where I should go to even get a good look first hand at one. I did use subaru.com to find the nearest locations, but I would still like to hear of which ones others would recommend.

I have been reading a lot about the sportier models sold out of USA, and even heard the rumor that a "special" edition might be coming to USA near the end of this year, or the begining of next. Should I plan on holding off to first see if these rumors come to light?

I can only guess the kind of responses I would get if I asked how you like your MY00 2.5 RS, but I would still be interested in experiences with it. Have you taken it off road? Up in the Sierra? How many miles have you put on it already? Anything annoying you even minorly?

Thanks for taking the time,

Hey welcome Phillip. You've come to the right place. If you have any questions about the car, feel free to post them here. The new model will be out probably late next year as a 2002 model. It will probably be turbo charged(of course a turbo will cut the life of the car). But this will also have a redesigned body, so, if you like the current body style, you'll have to buy a 2000 or 2001 model(or used). I haven't driven mine in the snow but I hear it's an awesome snow car. I go up to Tahoe quite a bit to snowboard and that is part of the reason I bought this car. A lot of the other guys have taken it off road and they also autocross their cars. It's a great car for such things. Well if you have nothing better to do today. You should go hang out with the other members at the install fest at Daniels house. they will be able to answer questions better than I. Well good luck and I hope you stick around!
Oh, by the way, where are you from?

Yeah, that's about right.

Hi Philip, welcome to the Bay Area and to the board. If you have time today, probably the best thing you can do is come to the Install Fest at Daniel's house -- he's even in Fremont. There you will find a bunch of Subaru gearheads who will let you ogle, ask about, and maybe even drive a few of our cars. Go back to the messages index and check out the thread called "Skid Plate Install" for the address.

Hope to see you there!

I am originally from Modesto, CA. Even with only being a hour and half drive from here, its a totally different life style (at least to me).

The turbo sounds interesting, but waiting a little over a year seems a bit too long, I want to try to get out of my Honda sooner than that.

I got up a touch too late to hit the install fest. When I drove by around noon it seemed to be over, so I didn't want to bother the residents. I will try to make the next one.
