Question Need tire reccomendation for odd situation

Car: 04 STi, stock wheels & suspension. Accessport/turboback, white line steering rack bushings.

Use: >95% daily commuting and spirited back roads driving, summer only

Odd situation: My stock tires are all but bald, so this week I will be replacing them, my goal is an affordable high performance summer tire that will perform equal to, or better than, my stock tires. However, in a week I depart on a road trip that will most likley approach 6000 miles, thus the tires need to be able to take that boring mid west highway milage, and still have a significant portion of life left when i return home two weeks later.

What tires should I pick, I really don't want to buy a tire just because it will last, then be stuck with a crap tire for a lot of miles, but I also don't want to return from my trip and have to buy another set of tires before I stop driving the car for the season.

I thought a set of Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's would do the trick, but the guys at my local shop had less than stellar things to say about it. They reccomended a set of Falken Azenis ST-115's. I had them on my WRX, and while they were better than the RE-92's, I wouldn't say I was floored by them. So, now I am here looking for suggestions.

Toyo T1-S.
Not the cheapest tire, but should fit the bill. (May not grip as well as the Bridgestones, but good wet and dry traction, and also pretty good tread life.)
