Default How big is that STi upgrade exhaust, anyway??

Hey guys.

Yesterday I had an appointment to get my RS looked at (piston misfire--long story ), and the dealership had lots of SPT/STi parts on display tables. One new one was the Bosal upgrade exhaust.

It seemed to me to be probably the upgrade from the OE STi exhaust. Came to this conclusion by the midpipe circumference. A few weeks ago I did a "hand test" on a few exhausts, as I've been thinking of upgrading my own.
My conclusions:

my wife's '95 Legacy LS: hand fits all the way around, with 1/2" or so to spare
RS/TS: hand fits all the way around, fingers barely touch
WRX: maybe 1/2" gap between fingers
STi: I'd say a good 1" gap between fingers

Well, this thing on the table was enormous by comparision. I know my hands aren't that big, but I could probably only get about 1/2 to 2/3 the way around the sucker. What is that, a 3" midpipe?

Good lord. Looked really nice! What confused me a bit, though, was I didn't see an STi logo on the exhaust tip, and I was fairly certain that the SPT upgrade option was a legit. STi exhaust.

Anyway, thought I'd share with you FI guys.
