1999 Outback

Default 1999 OB Phase I or Phase II ?

How can I tell if my 1999 Outback has a Phase I or Phase II engine ?

I'm trying to figure out if my car is one of those with the "head gasket" issue.

Even if it's a phase 2, you're likely to have the issue, as we all have.

IIRC, the Phase 2's have a grid pattern on the top of the motor near the cylinder heads while phase 1's don't, but my car never stoofd a chance of being a ph2, so I didn't pay that much attention
