Default looking to buy an STi

i am looking into buying an STi. and this is my first time on this site, and the first time i have heard of any problems with the car.you guys are all mentioning the problems you are having with the transmission. With all the people that are having this problem there is no way it is all becasue of the way you drive it. there has to be some mechanical problems with these cars for it to happen so often. also i hear about the low power output, sluggishness. i see all these numbers in the magazines of how much power it has and then i come here to the owners of the car and hear how slow it is. i just want some feedback, and what your pros and cons are on your STi.

I haven't had any issues in my STi...it is just as quick and handle just as well as I thought it would be and not tranny issues at all. Unfortuantely I am selling mine to buy a house. Let me know if you are interested. I will definitley own another one when the time comes. They are such great all around cars...power, handling, featured (adjustable HIDs, DCCD, water sprayer, BBS wheels) what else could you ask for?

P.S. Nice screen name. Just got their album...The Curse...it rocks!

I'm on here way too much and I haven't seen many problems with the STi. The transmission problems you are seing are with the WRX not the WRX Sti.
Actually I did see one owner with a problem with the 6 speed, but only one.

Anyway, I love my Sti. I really have no complaints. It rides stiff and is noisy inside compared to most cars because of the lack of sound deadening, but that is it as far as I'm concerned. It's a great all around performance car,

I likes mine even though it is stock. You just point and shoot and off you go.

No tranny problems with my 04 but I've only got about 4k on the clock. Had a problem with my trunk latch, was misadjusted, about a 5 min fix.

Pros: Performance!! Handling, looks, interior fit and space (I'm 6'7" and fit comfortably), etc. I can't say how happy I am with the car.
Cons: um...the DCCD switch being on the left lower dash...just how are you supposed to hit that between shifts? I guess it also draws attention, which is generally not bad, but can be sometimes...I notice I'm always the target of the radar gun, and people always rev at you, but nothing I wouldn't expect.

They're great cars, what else are you considering?

Please keep in mind that the complaints you hear about the WRX transmission are from a subset of the group. The majority of us have no problems with the transmission. The complaints are logged and debated more. We rarely post messages saying the car worked as it is supposed to for the last two months unless modifications are involved. This is typical of any product and any group so bear this in mind when you read about someone who has issues with their transmission.

any tranny problems people have with the STi are from slamming the shifter. somehow people think fast shifting means hammering the shifter from gate to gate. in the STi the gears practically find themselves.
