Exclamation 1993 Subaru Impreza Won't Start!

I wanted to see if anyone can help me on this mysterious problem that keeps happening.

I have a 1993 Subaru Impreza L AWD with a WRX Turbo setup. The following electronics are installed:

Blitz Turbo Timer
Apexi S-AFC
Apexi ITC

The car has been running fine, but recently in the morning especially, it won't turn over. I crank it and its trying to start, but there is no spark. I can smell the fuel, which is flooding the engine, cuz when I do get it started late afternoon or evening it shoots out white smoke from the exhaust. It's so weird that it start's up later on in the day, but not in the morning.

I've checked all the wiring under the dash, checked fuses, and wiring to the ECU.. everything seems fine. I've replaced the coil pack with a new one to see if that was the problem and it wasnt. I've changed spark plugs with new ones... etc. Someone suggested it might be the starter.. or is this a common problem on earlier model Subaru's?

Can anyone help me... this is very frustrating and I've searched all over the internet and on this board.

Thank you

Raymond

This isn't really a routine maintenance question since you have a conversion in your car as well as additional electronics. You might have better luck asking this in the Conversions forum to see if others have had similar experiences with setups like yours.
I can offer a couple of general opinions though. If it is cranking at a normal turnover speed the problem is not the starter. If it cranks slower then normal, you may have a weak battery or (less likely) bad starter. I would suggest checking the voltage across your battery while you try to crank it- if it drops below about 10V while cranking your battery may be weak and unable to provide enough "juice" to fire the engine. The battery voltage at rest with the engine off should be no less than 12.5V. Also check the battery terminal connections for cleanliness and tightness, as well as the ground connections to the body and engine.

I know the starters are linked to the ABS. Say if the fuse is pulled the car will not start.

This was a problem we figured out while rebuilding my 97 OBS.
