Default I'm suprised at the baja's soft landings

I was amazed how incredibly soft the baja lands after jumping. I was going 85 and then became air born. I only got a foot of air but it didnt bottom out but it also didnt hurt when landing, unlike my friends nissan sedan which hurt like crazy from bottoming out. Anyone else jump their baja? How was the experiance? All in a days fun

I'd like to rally-x our baja, but I'm not allowed to. There is a rally-x coming up with a soft landing jump built into the course, it would be fun. I doubt I'd purposely jump my Baja, but I'd love to jump someone elses!

Every Subaru I've owned likes to jump (except the SVX) They are rally desinged so it makes sence.

In general, the Subaru marketing literature claims that the Subaru drivetrain layout (with the front transaxle centrally located) allows for maximum suspension wheel travel.

Front-wheel cars with transverse engines often have unequal length driveshafts because the transmission is at the end of the engine, and thus located either to the left or the right side of the engine compartment. Thus, if you want to make both side of the front suspension have the same amount of travel, you have to shorten the suspension travel of the side with the longer drive shaft to match the suspension travel of the side with the shorter driveshaft. If the front suspension doesn't have much travel, then it is not cost effective to add a that much of extra travel on the rear end because it would go mostly unsused since the front end will bottom out way before you reached the limit on the rear. Also, more suspension travel means less trunk space. Thus, the rear suspension is probably restricted as well in such a vehicle.

With the Subaru layout, you don't have the limitations caused by unsymmetric length driveshafts, and suspension travel can be utilized more fully all around. Does anybody have actual numbers for the suspension travel on the Baja?
