Doh! I'm only going for the 10/23 event. I plan to spank some bimmers.

Anyone got "You just got beat by a wagon" and "Pray for Rain" magnet for me to borrow?

First day out on the track with the White Mountain Chaper BMW-CCA. The WRX handled very well, and I'm very satisfied with the power output and handling. The new tires are a big help.

As it was a first track day, I was very nervous on the first few laps. After about 3 laps however, I quickly got a feel for the line, and by the 3rd to last lap I had passed 2 cars and was really comfortable on the track.

My instructor took my out to get a feel for what goes on with more experienced drivers, and I payed close attention to his line, shifting and braking points, and apexes. This was a huge help on my second session, I really opened up a bit more and felt a lot more confidant adding more power and harder braking. I got a great feel for the line, and made it my goal to stick to the line and drive very smooth.

By the third session I focused on getting on the brakes harder and a bit earlier as I had been getting on them too late and too lightly. My bad street habits were bleeding into the track driving. I tried to get all my braking done before I started to turn in. By the third lap I felt that I had more control in the corners, and could apply power quicker and begin to take off much sooner. This let me shave lots of time off, and gave the course a much smoother and in-control feel.

The car is performing very close to how I want it to, except the brakes. I'm sure better pads would make a huge difference. There were a few points where I could feel that gas-vapor between the pad and rotor effect. This was my fault, as I was braking too long and not hard enough, which was allowing the gases to build up.

I'm totally hooked now, too bad I got into track days soo late in the season. Now i'm going to have to wait until the spring!

Sounds like you're starting to get it.

My student was a no show, so I was open all day. Ran into Ken and his wife (no more crashed cars......) but not a big subie contingent Sunday. Nice day for brakes....cool and the track was cold. I'm getting more used to the CRX and even tried to run down Bruce Allen in the oval! (no, I didn't gain on him....what a surprise). I got some great info about my car and now have my winter plans nailed down.

By the way.....COM will be at Lime Rock for a school on Nov 19th and time trial the 20th. And yes....I have some snow tires for the race car.

Yeah, it's amazing what they can do with paint an body filler these days

Monday report:

A long, cold first flagging session for group 2 started the day. We rant he south chicane rather thatn the oval. Only excitement was a spinning Miata in Turn 2 in the morning.

First on track session at 11:30. Started off slow, warmed up and built up speed. Had my instructor confuse me with some long light trail braking thing into Turn 6. Didn't like it...

Solo after that , felt good, spent time chasing down a black 05 STi. Cool weather is great for brakes and power, but bad for traction. Today was 3-5 degrees warmer and seemed to make a big difference in grip. Tons of marbles on the track, got a big scuff in my hood from a big one lauched on the front straight by my evil twin in the 05 . Oh well, more buffing and wax should cover it.

Ron, good to meet you and glad you are hooked. Jack, always a pleasure.
