Default 215/45R17 on a MY00 GT?

Anyone running 215/45R17 on a 2000+ Legacy GT? If you are, any rubbing. Also, what' s the rim width? 7" or 7.5" and the offset?

I know 205/50R17 will work, but I'd really like to go 215 if I could.

Hey Trent,

If you can find rims that are 17 X 7 with a 53 - 55 offset, the 215 X 50 X 17 will fit.

On my GT, as you saw, with 50 offset, it is toooooooo tight. Less than 2mm gap between sidewall and fender under full compression.

Good Luck...

Won in "B" class with 93.384 Sec. Closest person was MikeZ in an Imprezza (Black) with Yokohama A032 R compound tires, he got 95.7XX

Not bad for a family sedan on street tires eh!!!

215/45 R17 on 7.5x17s is the standard wheel for the B4. Not sure of the offset, but I bet it's close to 53 mm (which is the stock 16" offset).

I believe Prodrive offers a 17" rim as a valid option for the Legacy in the UK - I've seen one or two 2nd hand Legacies advertised with "Prodrive 17s" (sic).

205/50 is very slightly taller than 215/45. 215/50 is taller still. However I believe North American Legs have 205/55 R16s which means that you will need either 205/50 R17 or 225/45 R17 to retain reasonable speedometer accuracy. 205/50 R17 would probably be best, as 225 on a rim width of, say, 7.5" will probably rub against the innards unless you have more offset (and even then it may rub against the wheelarch).

For each extra inch of rim, you need to go down 5 percentage points on the aspect ratio, for a given tyre width, to retain speedo accuracy. So:

205/55 R16 has same* rolling radius as 205/50 R17

205/50 R16 has same* rolling radius as 205/45 R17

225/50 R16 has same* rolling radius as 225/45 R17

215/50 R16 has same* rolling radius as 215/45 R17

* Give or take a percentage or two - not enough to worry seriously about speedo accuracy.

I have 17x7 Speedlines from SPD on my 2K Wagon, with the 215/45 17 Toyo T1s. I'm not lowered so no chance of a rub. They work very well.

Running 17x7.5s, 48 off-set, no problem with 215/45-17s. Not lowered, the off-set has it lined exactly on the body - the slightly round sidewall of the tyres I have probably helps, too.

Standard rims are 7" wide, can't remember the off-set.

People looking for wider/bigger tyres/lowering at the same time should go ahead and have the rear wheel arch rolled to prevent contact. We have seen a car that has chewed its very nice and expensive rubber - not pretty.
