Thumbs down Searching is kinda broken

Is it just me or is the searching now kind of "funky"? I can't seem to search for anything that contains a word with less than 3 letters (i.e. I can't search STI brakes, STI suspension, WRX interior, etc.) without getting an error saying that you can't search for things under 4 characters in length.

I thought I'd just "trick" it by using a wildcard at the end (i.e. STI* suspension), but any time I try a wildcard with more than 1 word (i.e. "STI* suspension" as opposed to just "STI*") it sits there for 60 seconds and then barfs out the following:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded in /home/httpd/html/forums/search.php on line 389

It also seems to be a bit baked in that it doesn't seem to understand quotes, as in "STI Suspension" and "STI Brakes" like other search engines. Typically this finds all the posts that contain the phrases "STI Suspension" and "STI Brakes". Here it just looks for posts that contain the words "STI", "suspension" and "brakes". This returns a bunch of garbage hits, and really makes the searching pretty limited.

Beggers can't be choosers I guess

Searching is limited to 4 or more characters because anything less bogs down the server. The Imprezidents are working on it. Then again, if you want to donate a faster dual processor system and another GB of RAM, I'm sure they'll enable shorter searches.

Fear the Trunkmonkey. There is no cone.

I knew there was a reason why at work I use MS SQL Server with full-text searching.

Anyway....donate some money!!! Then Nick can buy another server to throw the database on. I'd bet we would get the full searching capabilites then.
