Question Rear wheel bearings redesign

Recent wheel bearings post reminds me I've read that the rear bearings on the new Impreza are an integral bearing/hub--you replace the assembly, rather than press in a new bearing.

Anybody know more about this? Any changes on Forester or Legacy? If true I figure it is Subaru's answer to the bearing problem.

The 2000 and later Legacy (new style rear suspension) uses the differant wheel bearing design you refer to. The new Impreza uses the old style suspension and therefore the old style wheel bearings. The WRX, however, uses a roller bearing and the normally-aspirated Impreza uses the ball-bearing type.

SubyTechMaster- Is there a better, (more durable), bearing set that someone can install when the current unit fail. It reads like the WRX roller bearing set is better replacement for the MY98-01 RS, is that correct.

Thanks

Beginning in Jan. 1999, Subaru superseded the Ball-Bearing for the Roller-bearing. The Roller-bearing is still an available part, it is listed for the older Legacy. The housing and hub never changed, only the bearing. The older style Roller-Bearing can still be installed.
