Alignment Question: please help!
I just made an appointment with Sears to do an alignment and they told me that they dont have the specs for my 05 WRX yet. Shouldn't it be the same as an 04 WRX? Also, I'm lowered on Eibach Prokit springs. Is there anything I should tell them before they do it?
THANKS!

i have prodrives and told sears that its lowered about an inch. just tell them that. if its lowered too much they wont do it. so an inch is about as much you should say.

you don't even need to tell them it's lowered, it shouldn't matter. The stock specs and adjustments should be the same from 04-05.
Don't let them give you the stock alignment specs, please. Just go in prepared with your own... |

i would call sears to make sure they are willing to do the alignment to your specs. the sears by my place wouldnt even listen to me when i asked for specific camber and toe settings. liability i guess. and, hell, its sears, the alignment guy doesnt know what different settings does. he just works the machine. trust me, they suck.

With the springs, did you put camber bolts in the rear? Otherwise you're limited in camber adjustment in the rear. Mild street alignment might be around -1.5 front camber, -1.0 rear camber. Zero toe all around. I'm presently running a very agressive set-up with relatively stiff coilovers -- but my commute to work is about 12 miles I've got -2.25 front 1.9 rear with 1/8 toe out in the front. Razor sharp turn-in. |

Toe out in front makes the car difficult to drive on the highway - as wind gusts push the car, it is putting more weight on the leeward side of the car, causing the front leeward tire to have more pull than the front windward tire and thus it will follow wind gusts (even small ones) a lot. Also, imperfections in the flatness of the road will cause lots of difficult tracking Toe out in the rear does not have the same highway issues because as wind gusts push your car to the side, the rear tires will move the car in a direction which tends to combat the wind. Also, toe-out in the front adds some turn-in crispness but it doesn't really do anything beyond that. Toe-out in the rear will give the car more oversteering effect on turning because as you turn, the outside rear wheel will tend to track more towards the outside of the turn thus bringing the tail out a hair. You do not need to put camber bolts in the rear when you put springs in! This is a silly myth that stems from the fact that putting sedan struts on a wagon results in severe negative camber and vice versa. If anything, you would want to put the camber bolts in the front to give yourself more front camber. |

nick- i used camber bolts in the rear to get less negative camber because the insides of my tires were wearing faster back there. I went from -1.7 to -1.0. |

Why sears for the Alignment??? Go to Mallory Kotzen or Mavis Tire. They are more reputable in my book. I've bought three sets or more tires from them an d aligned my old 97 OS when I had that. They were great.
