rota grids vs. volk TE37. how are they different?
i know theyre two totally brands, but style wise how similar are they.
i know from the naked eye, they look close. but in person do they book about the same? im planning on buying some for daily wheels (dont want to drive on weds anymore) and i dont want to dish out extra for real volks. i have a guy that powdercoats wheels and i want to get them done in the mag blue color, so they'll be the same in that aspect. and no, i will NOT put volks stickers on them. i guess my main question is, if they were both custom colored, no stickers.. could you tell the difference? how similar are they right next to eachother.? -ryan

i cant speak for the grids specifically, but if you compare gramlights to attacks, they look pretty similar from a distance, but its pretty obvious up close how they are (slightly) different. not thats a bad thing...

there are several kinds of powder coating available......you don't want them done at a high temperature 'cuz you will kill the temper of your wheels and make them soft.

im just worried about people being about to spot the difference from upclose or a distance. |

Most casual car heads won't be able to tell the difference between real VOLKS and knock-offs, but the majority will automatically just assume you're rocking fakes if your wheels don't have the VOLK/RAYS Engineering stickers. Btw, the Grids are fairly close to real TE-37's & LE-37's. Almost makes me want to sell my set of LE's and get a few sets of Grids! |

Why does it matter if they look exactly like Volks or not? If someone comes up and says, "Oh...those aren't Volks, they're copies", is that going to hurt your ego? Basically....who the hell cares if people know they're "real" or not. All that should really matter is that you like the way they look, and they're reliable. Rotas are proven to be a great wheel for the money, so if you like the looks, get them.

i dont think being a perfectionist have anything to do with real or knock-offs, you're just worried that other people think you are cheap. you are really better off getting the real volks because from what you've been saying, you want people to think they are authentic volks. i understand some people are very brand conscience and if you got the extra benjamins to pony up, go for it.
rota have their place in the market, quality with solid value. if you cant accept them for what they are, dont get them. it'll only make you unhappy. and you woulda spelled perfectionist right if you were one. Last edited by express_wagon; 12-20-2004 at 06:40 PM. |

Rota make great, strong wheels..but I dont remember the last time they had a unique design..all their designs are copies of other wheels

from the pictures I've seen, the spokes on the rotas look a bit thinner than the ones on the volks. I could very well be imagining things though.
once you add up the cost of the rotas themselves, along with the cost of powdercoating, the price difference isn't quite as substantial anymore. Save a little longer and get the volks if you are concerned about people being able to tell you have replicas. I'd personally get the rotas though, they are strong and light enough for most purposes. I'd probably also have a heart attack if I ever curbed wheels as expensive as the volks. |

Having said that, I bought real deal VOLKS because I appreciate their quality and timeless designs (TE's & LE's). Plus, I got mine waaaay before the Grids came out. As others mentioned, ROTA makes very good quality wheels AT REASONABLE prices. While it would be nice if they came up with their own designs, their business strategy is very smart. Sell quality products at good prices, and consumers will come in droves! Buy what you want because YOU like em not to satisfy others. That's my motto. |

If you are a perfectionist ... then you would have bought TE37s and not have started this thread. No questions asked ... there wouldn't be any contentions either.
