Hankook, Sumitomo, or kumho?
I'm torn between these three sets of tires. They would be going on a set of 17X8" A-tech erasors, on a 02 WRX. 235-40-17 tire size.
I plan on autocrossing at the most once a month. These won't be year round tires, I plan on putting on the stock rims with snow tires when the season comes. An all-season tire would be nice so I could go off road, and also so i wouldn't have to take off my summer wheels and tries when there is a THREAT of snow. This year I was told that it was going to snow around thanksgiving, and it didn't end up snowing until after christmas(i could have had another month on my summer wheels if i had all-seasons on there). I also would like to get two seasons worth of life out of these tires. A quiet tire is also a plus, I had yokohama AVS ES100's on my old car and they didn't squeal or screech when I broke traction, which is good for not getting unwanted attention (cops) when i'm driving aggresively around town. Kumho ECSTA 711, I like these tires for the price...$73 a piece. Never heard anyone talk about these tires though, or heard of anyone who has them. Sumitomo HTR+, I like these tires because they are an all season tire. Compreing them on the "tire rack online survey results" to the Kumhos, they have the same score across the board...but a 7.2 in the snow traction section as compared to N/A for the kumhos. Hankook Ventus HRII H405, A little bit more expensive than the Kumhos but again, another tire i've never heard anyone talk about, or heard of anyone who has them. If anyone can reccomend a tire that is less than $90 a tire in the 235-40-17 size that you think I will be happy with please let me know. I'm kinda leaning twards the sumitomos just because it's a all-season tire...but you would think an all-season tire would not perform as well as a strictly summer performance tire...so like I said, i'm undecided.
